I'm 3000 miles into my purchase of a '17 Trailhawk. I have the suede insert seats. The driver's bottom right side bolster pressures my hip to the point it's gone numb on a long drive. It's incredibly uncomfortable at all times.
I've fiddled with adjustments, moved my butt around, to no avail. Is anyone experiencing this issue, and what have you done?
I'm not a large person. Its not a body issue. I have other vehicles with more bolstering than this Jeep (Golf R & M3) and have no issues with those seats.
I have a bit over 10,000 miles on mine right now, and while I didn't really notice the seats "breaking in" my experience is these seats are the most comfortable seats of any vehicle I've ever owned. It's possible after more miles your's will break in a bit. I'm sorry I can't be more help with your issue.
Maybe try to sit in another one and see if there was a variance or quality control issue for your seat causing a bad spot.....Hope you get it worked out.
Thanks Grim,
Today I sat in a luxury package TH, no suede, leather inserts, and it did seem better.
It had just gotten off the truck, so I'm going back and driving it back to back when its ready.
I love the truck, but this issue is driving me crazy. Jeep Wave customer service is involved and I hope to get some rectification somehow. I'd hate to sell it.
No problem, I hope you get it sorted out. I agree with you it's an amazing vehicle. I had really good luck dealing with Chrysler Corporate with an issue we had on my girlfriend's 15 Charger Scat Pack, so I hope you have the same experience and take good care of you. Keep us informed of how it goes.
I read on one of these Jeep forums someone had this issue, realized the plastic on the side of the lower seat edge was pushing in on it so they had the inner edge of that plastic cut or bezeled off and it relieved the pressure from the side of their thigh.
I'm looking to get similar changes made to my Trailhawk seat too. Do you have any more details? Did they just cut down the bolsters and pull the cover back tight or did they make a new cover? Perhaps more pics of the modified seat that I might show to the local shop? While they're highly regarded for classic restores, he's a bit concerned about how this will look... he wants a good result as much as I do.
I have the exact same problem in my 17 Trailhawk that has 38000mls and suede seats. My right leg wants to fall asleep, no matter what position I move the seat in. I believe something is wrong with the seats. Mine sound like as someone mentioned on the FB group like "Plastic Bottles" underneath the suede. My seat and passenger seat are crunchy when sat in. I'll see if I can post the video. On my seat if you push ever so slightly into the seat while sitting I can feel something metal so I definitely knew something isn't right. I took it into the dealership and showed it to the parts manager. He insisted that that his wife has one and those seats are very comfortable, but as soon as he sat in mine he quickly said something is definitely wrong and it shouldn't be making that sound. He told me he will figure it out and get back to me. We are not the only ones that has had this issue. Lots of please on FB have complained about it, while others have said they are the most comfortable seats ever. It might have been that year or that particular run at the factory, but your not alone with this problem. I'll keep you posted with my results for other members experiencing this issue.
Race, Sorry I don't have more pics. That and a whole lot of other niggling, bothering details forced me to trade in the thing in September '17. No regrets.
The upholstery shop cut the bolster seams, shaved down the foam and re-sewed the bolsters only. He did not mention cutting out any metal supports. It took less than a day. Seems like you have a competent shop. Good luck.
Got the seat cushion replaced and it releaved the problem. It made a gigantic difference in comfort. Comparing the replacements to the old cushions and the old were concaved due to use.
I have a 17" trailhawk and at 7k miles and still hate the seats. It is the bolstering on the both sides of the seat. Was the cushion replacement free and how did the dealer agree with you? Im debating whether to bring this issue up to my local dealership along with the wind noises.
Well, he said I was just past my warranty and couldn't do it under warranty anymore, but I know the manager so he really helped me out ;-) My suggestion would be to ask and if it's under warranty they should cover it. they won't believe you so tell them to compare yours with another GC and they will definitely see and feel a difference. If that doesn't work, I would find an appolster and see what they can do. That's what he did with me. He said MOPAR had a parts number for the cushion, but he was unable to order it without ordering practically the whole seat, so he sent it to an apolstery shop. Good luck with this.
The mid 2000's Rams had this problem. It was immediately familiar when I sat in the seat of my 2014 JGC. On the Ram we used to pull the seats out, lift the cushions or pull the metal spring / hammock loose, and then put a couple of pieces of carpeting between the cushion and the metal wires. That would raise the center of the seat up even with the sides. I've been telling myself to do it to this Grand Cherokee since day one. My right hip and leg also go numb constantly.
I have a 2018 that i just took delivery of in Oz and the exact same problem. Shocking seats! I had a weekend test drive in a 2017 year model and it was fine. Now that i know there is a problem across the board, I’ll be pushing for a replacement.
