Tranny clunk at start up.

14 limited. 4x2. 400 miles

At startup I hear a clunk sound right below the driver seat while still in park. At first I thought it was the a/c motor firing up but does it off too.

I notice it only does it when cold. Or after a overnight startup.

Any ideas?

Sorry if it has been discussed before.

Re: Tranny clunk at start up.

I am experiencing the same thing! Mine has 5000 miles but only started doing it within the last 500 miles or so. It clunks at startup probably 75% on the time. Sometimes it even moves forward slightly at startup like it wasn't fully in park. I have been meaning to take it into the dealer.

Re: Tranny clunk at start up.

Here is a sound clip. Not as bad this morning but can still be heard. Sounds like shifting in the transmission.

I had both these problems with an earlier build jeep. 3/13. I also had a ton of of tranny problems.

The forward moving always bothered me. A lot of work was done to the tranny, but these issues remained.

Re: Tranny clunk at start up.

The forward movement on startup really concerned me. Keep an eye on it.
Sorry I don't have any other advice.

Its only at startup? Not while shifting from park to reverse/drive? WK or wk2? My 06 needed front diff isolation bushings replaced (all 3, very common) to eliminate the clunk. Basically the front diff rotates when tourqe is applied to it. If the bushings are torn the diff smacks the mounts rather than being isolated by the rubber bushing

Re: Tranny clunk at start up.

Mine too. Only at first start up of the day. Before the engine warms up. After the first start no noise.

Mine is now doing the lurch forward at start. Just barely. Still have clunk.
