Transfer Case Leaking

Has anyone run into a leaking transfer case yet ? I found out from my oil change place. I immediately took it to my Jeep Dealership, but they set me up with an appointment. Only 14,000 miles on my 2014 Laredo 4x4. I'll keep you posted on the out come.

If you can get under there and spray wash the heck out of it the day before you take it to the dealer it would help. Most oil change techs wouldn't know antifreeze from motor oil or transfer case lube or baby oil or Brylcream or butch wax.

Any leak along the engine has a good chance of being blown back such that it looks like it is coming from somewhere else.

Re: Transfer Case Leaking

Well, my dealership has to order 2 seals. One for the back of the transmission and one for the transfer case. They are not sure which one is leaking. So i guess it takes 5-7 business days to get. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Transfer Case Leaking

I have a 2016 Trailhawk with 22k miles. Took it to get an oil change and tech noticed leak from transfer case. I took to Jeep service, and they confirmed the leak. Jeep said that they had to replace entire transfer case because individual parts not available. Sounds strange to me. They had it 2 days. Tech said it took 2 days because he had not done a transfer case before. That sort of freaks me out. Should I be worried? My instinct is to get rid of the car before I have bigger problems. Any thoughts?

I think you need to take a breath a minute. Two days is pretty quick considering they probably had to order a new one from a another dealership or distribution center. Also swapping in a new transfer case vs. rebuilding a transfer case is a very strait forward procedure. You could probably train a monkey to do it. So don't panic and get rid of your trailhawk yet. It should give you many miles of reliable service.
