transmission is dead. three week old vehicle

i posted earlier today that I have my three week old 2015 grand cherokee towed and what I went through just to get it towed. The dealership just told me that the transmission has to be replaced. there is a switch that tells the car when it is in park or neutral and if that switch fails the car will not start. they cannot replace the switch, they have to replace the whole transmission. Now I am worried that I got a lemon. I am not sure what recourse I have. Any thoughts?

Give them the opportunity to fix it under warranty. You'd have to do that anyway before trying to use your state's lemon law.

The more complicated the more likely to fail. It is not a lemon if they can fix it.

Re: transmission is dead. three week old vehicle

Its a switch - parts fail, that doesn't make it a lemon and if it does turn out to be one there are laws to protect you.

For those worried about an early failures I always give the example of a car I bought new with 4 miles on it in 2006 (one not particularly known for reliability), at 3-4k miles the rear-end started shuttering, locking up, etc. Complete failure needed a whole new rear end shipped from Japan. My first thought was crap, is this a sign of things to come? Fast forward 8 years and many hard track and autox miles and I have not had a single problem with it since, hell its even on its original battery still! Its the most reliable car I have ever owned.

Don't write it off just yet.
