Angry Transmission Limp Mode / Valve Body Failure

On June 18, on a normal drive, my JGC Overland decided to drop from 6th gear to 5th gear. All the items in the back flew up and hit the windshield. I thought the tranny was going to fall off. I decided to just drive in to the dealership and drop it off, have had many software updates for rough shifting in the past. Well about 10 minutes later the truck did a weird wobble to almost stall and locked itself in 5th gear. I finally made it to the dealership and explained what had happened.

The dealership has had it since then. They replaced the valve body and TCM (all one unit on this transmission). They then broke the wire harness and had to order a new one of those, replacing the entire engine wire harness too. The Jeep still didn't work. They said they must have gotten a bad replacement part so they ordered a new one. I opened a support case with Chrysler and they started looking into it.

Today, they installed yet another "new" valve body and TCM and it still doesn't work. Chrysler is flying out a Jeep tech from CA to MA to look at it and see what is wrong. I can't wait to get it back and get rid of it ASAP. This is my 2nd 2014 Jeep. I clearly didn't learn my lesson after the first one.

Were they both V6?

Re: Transmission Limp Mode / Valve Body Failure

Yes they were both V6 models. The first one had a ton of issues but the dealer stood by their repairs. I traded it for a new model, lost a little equity. I drive too much for the gas hit of a V8.

Maybe when that Tech guy is done with yours, he should wander up my way and look at mine. My 2015 JGC Overland has been in the shop since May 16...already replaced BCM, VALVE BODY and now trying for FULL WIRING HARNESS. If the harness doesn't fix my issues, I'm going to push for a buy back and a re order.

Re: Transmission Limp Mode / Valve Body Failure

Jeep tech said the whole transmission and some driveline components need to be replaced. Going to be in the shop another week.

That sucks you have not had your 2015 in over a month. It's probably a bad transmission. What a unreliable pos. Jeep used to make quality stuff. Definitely not off-road worthy, as they die on-road.

Re: Transmission Limp Mode / Valve Body Failure

Got the Jeep back today. New transmission was installed. New complete engine and transmission wire harness installed. New torque converter installed. All new software installed. New brake booster installed. Jeep was destroyed on the inside, scratches all over the exterior, wiper blade plastics no longer flush with windshield. Dealership didn't seem to care. Just took it and left. Went to get it detailed and some scratches can't be buffed out, so I need to go back to the dealership. I still have a case open with Chrysler about the whole situation.

On a side note, I was driving home and went to use my wipers. Wipers got stuck half way up. Pulled over on the highway and took apart the plastics under the hood. I found blocks of WOOD in between the wiper control arms. Called the dealership, they had no idea why that would have been there. Bigger question, why does work on the transmission and brakes require blocks of wood to be left inside the car?
