I had the PCM reprogram Service Bulletin 18-035-14 done last week, and the shudder is gone. Just hope it stays fixed.
Now I finally like my Jeep. My only complaint is that it took almost 3 years to address this issue.
Does anyone know if TSB 18-035-14 is applicable to 2011 model year? I've had the shudder/fishbite problem for almost 4 years(39,000 mi).I do very little highway driving,so I never notice the problem around town. The TSB states 2012-2013 model year. Have an appointment w/dealer next week for routine maint and tires, don't know whether to waste my breath mentioning this TSB. The problem has been documented in several previous visits, starting around 5k miles,so.......any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Transmission Shudder

My 2011 5.7 has the shudder issue. Did the TSB 18-035-14 work for 2011's or no? Thanks.

Re: Transmission Shudder

I have owned a 2011 5.7 overland since new. The vehicle now has just over 70,000 miles on it. I have faithfully had it serviced and only at dealerships.

At approximately 50,000 my jeep began to develop the same symptoms and "shudder" that you are all describing. It occurs under light load, at times while going up slight inclines, and at times while cruising on the freeway.

I can "override" the "shudder" by giving it throttle or manually downshifting.

It has been "flashed" without success. Dealer "techs" have no idea as to the cause(s). I am advised that during transmission service that nothing was noticed to be abnormal.

I agree with all of you that a vehicle of this price and caliber should not have this type of problem….I also join those of you who believe that Chrysler, at the corporate and engineering level, know what causes of this may be…

I hope Chrysler steps up and addresses the issue….as transmission posts seem all too common on these bulletin boards as to all production years.

If these Grand Cherokees are the "Best of what we are" as Chrysler's ad jingle goes I believe they are in serious trouble as a producer.

Re: Transmission Shudder

I think im going to get ahold of the dealer and see if they can do the 18-035-14 on my 2011. I'll let everyone know if it 1) is possible and 2) fixes the problem.

Re: Transmission Shudder

I think I experienced some of the same issues but mine is a little different. I have a 2011 JGC Summit. Was cruising up in the mountains. Inclines weren't all that steep but long. Noticed a slight rumble strip sound going down hills and then a short time later I could smell something burning, I think my transmission was overheating. I let it cool for an hour or so and cruised some more on the mountain roads and then another 5 hours home on the interstate. It never came back.

Re: Transmission Shudder

My 2012 Jeep Liberty Jet v6 3.7L 4x4 has the shudder issue. When on a slight incline, 4th gear, or slightly accelerating in 4th gear, around 50 - 65mph, the vehicle shudders and starts to lose power. If I press the accelerator to force a downshift, it's ok, no shudder. Went in for service. They updated firmware for the ECU or TCU not sure. Seemed better for a few days. Then same problem came back. Took it to a different dealer. They said since the computer learns my driving behavior, I must have driven it wrong after reprogramming the ECU the first time (wow). So, they recommended another reprogramming. Same problem came back (surprise, duh). Time to call Chrysler. There's two ways to build loyalty. Have a great product. Or 'wow' us with support when things are bad. We spend a ton of money on these cars, and long term, the better play would be not to turn their backs on us when the going gets tough.

Re: Transmission Shudder

I know this is an old thread but worth a shot I guess. I'm having similar problems with my 2010 grand cherokee. Between 45 and 70 mph I get the bad shudder while driving, if I make it downshift it stops but once it upshifts it starts right back up. Iv got all new plugs and coils, just had the tranny, front and rear differential and transfer case serviced. It's got about 105k miles, just wondering if anybody figured it out or had any luck. Thanks.

Re: Transmission Shudder

It hasn't been resolved. The Jeep still has the issue. But I haven't pressed further either, yet. Thanks for posting.
