My 2012 Limited with 5.7L and 6 speed has this issue big time.

Re: Transmission Shudder

Good luck. I lemon lawed mine through the state and Jeep played along. They asked me to bring it in for a final repair attempt then called back that day and said its "a normal condition" come get it. I told them BS and you know it since your service manager admitted there is a problem and you tried fixing it for the fifth time last week. I then sent jeep documentation to repurchase it through my states lemon law process and they asked to bring it in one more time to let the service manager drive and document the condition. He admitted that there is something wrong and typed up a repair order saying so. Three days go by and jeep calls to tell me it's normal and there is nothing more than can do for me. Needless to say I am pissed. There is no way in hell a engineer and a car company would deliberately design a vehicle to behave in this manner. I just hope my lawyer comes though for me a sticks it to them. This is wrong on so many levels. As young as I am I easily have the potential to purchase at least ten more new vehicles in my life time. You would think they would see the potential loss from me and other customers they have screwed over. I will never deal with Chrysler again.

2/29/12 I called JEEP to get an update on my rental case and vehicle. There was a note saying that i had oversized tires and that it could cause this issue. I nicely stated that the tires had been added late January and the issue is well documented to May of 2011. I got the diagnosis of this issue being "normal operation". Rental denied, come pick up the vehicle. This information came from my case manager, and the need to pick up the vehicle from my service manager. I tried to remain calm and politely tell the case manager that I beg to differ. This is NOT normal operation. Everyone that rides in the jeep asks what is wrong with it. Ugh. Since that seems to go nowhere, I asked what was the next step. I told him that my only option appeared to be lemon law, and he offered to "transfer" the case up to that department. He told me that i would get a call back from that department by the end of business on 3/1/12.

The lemon law department called back around 4:30 (right after i picked up the jeep) and said that they were the preliminary review/research into lemon lawing the jeep. She stated that she felt like it could be a case and passed it up to corporate/regional business center. She said that I should know something within 2 weeks and to give my dealership (friendship) a call in about a week to get an update. She was calling them as she hung up with me to let them know the situation. SOooOOO, that's how it stands as of now.

My situation is as follows: If Jeep lemons it themselves, then great. If not, then I have to do the lawyer situation. I've already given the information to my lawyer, and we're just awaiting jeep's response.

For those of you that have had the issue: Which route did you take in lemon lawing yours? I've read a few ppl saying they did it, but I can't remember which forum.

Re: Transmission Shudder

Just a small update: I spoke with my service manager about a week ago. He said his district rep informed him that "hundreds" of 2011s with the 5.7L were having this issue now. He said that Chrysler is actively working on a fix and that it is software related.

No word on my buy back / lemon request yet.

Keep us updated on what they tell you. I no longer have any dialogue with them.

Re: Transmission Shudder

Oh, gosh - my 37K mistake?

2012 GC Limited v6. 350mi (just out of engine break in period) I get the 'shudder' when highway accelerating from 55-70 (I let off at that point) on slight inclines, or maintaining 55 while going up moderate inclines. Get 1-2 secs of feeling like going over a rumble strip - then 1-2 seconds of no rumble, repeatedly. Shudder increases in frequency as speed increases.

Judging from the thread, absolutely dreading what might be a long play out of this with dealers, service managers, Chrysler, etc. Calling the dealer now. Ugh.

Re: Transmission Shudder

My 2012 5.7 has developed this issue as well. Looking forward to see if it is in fact a software issue.

Re: Transmission Shudder

I'm having the same shudder problems in my 2012 Overland with the Hemi. The frist time I brought it to the attention of the dealer they updated some software but did not fix the problem. I've brought it back since then a few times for other things but haven't left it there to address the shudder issue.

I look forward to hearing about the software fix mentioned on this board. I will also look into the Rhode Island Lemon laws. I'm an attorney so maybe I'll do it myself.

Unbelievable!

Re: Transmission Shudder

I purchased a 2012 Overland Summit on Wednesday 5/16. On Friday morning 5/18 the dealer put it on a flatbed and took it to their repair shop. It had under 200 miles on it. I had driven 130 miles round trip and everything was fine. I got home and when I backed it out of the garage later I noticed that when I braked, changed gear from reverse to drive and took my foot off the brake, it rolled backward.

At the end of my street, after a full stop, I pressed on the accelerator and the Jeep jerked a few times before accelerating. I was taking my family for a "joy drive" in the new GC and everyone noticed and was concerned. This then happened at every stop sign and any time I accelerated even at speed. At some point I pulled over and turned the Jeep off, thinking that maybe the electronics needed to be reset. When I restarted, the jerking got worse and the check engine light came on. I had gotten about one or two miles from home and we were all glad to get home.

The dealer service department has told me that there is a problem inside the transmission and that it will take 3-5 days to fix. We'll see.

Ironically, today Chrysler's customer survey person called to ask about my purchase experience.
