Warranty is not an issue. It's covered.
Although, in reading about all this, there seems to be a similar problem in both the 5 and 6 speed gearboxes. The valve plate mentioned above is for the 6, as is the upcoming firmware revision. The 5 speed that wta0002 has is some bushings or whatever which I don't think will apply to me. Oh well, off to the dealer...wheeee!

Re: Transmission Shudder

Hi,

I have this exact problem, too, I believe in my 2012 V8. When I accelerate from 30 or 40mph hard the car seems to shudder 3 times before downshifting and taking off. It doesn't do it every time and I can't figure out a specific trigger for it, even if I get to happen once and then try to do the same exact thing on the same road just a few seconds later it may not happen.
I took it into the dealer yesterday and I'm waiting for them to report anything. I suspect they will just say it's normal... it really is not normal.

Any advice you can give? e.g. any TSBs or does the issue go by another name that may be more recognizable to the dealer.... is the valve plate replacement the key or more of a SW issue that the dealer will apply?

Re: Transmission Shudder

Dealer did a re-program and the problem seems to be gone, he said there was a pending issue. So far, so good, it shifts harder (which is what I wanted) and more predictably and there's no shudder when going from approx 30 or 40 under hard acceleration. It does appear to be much better.
No mechanical changes, just the SW update.

The update to the TSB you are referring to (one that says mid-grade will make it less noticeable) is pending a release in August of this year. It has been on the books since 2011 and had a huge amount of variables and combinations (a very well informed source told me) so it has been a big deal to fix properly.

PM me with year and engine if your truck and I will make sure I contact you when I see the STAR Case updated.

I have a V8 with the "6 speed" (that's actually kind of a joke, it's not a 6-speed since it can't access all 6 gears as I recently learned, but, that's a different story).

When I accelerated it felt like the car would shudder 3 times then grab and take off.

The dealer applied a TSB for the SW update and that seems to have fixed it.

That isn't what he is referring to. He is referring to when you are driving the HEMI and you are in 4th or 5th and you load up the transmission at about 20 to 30 percent throttle the hesitation (fish bite) is felt. Transmission doesn't shift, in fact the torque converter is locked up and there is something not right going on in the combustion cycle of the engine. No it has nothing to do with ECO and it affects a lot of product out there.

Re: Transmission Shudder

Wtf!?!?!? Why is there not a solution out for this yet? They can fix the 6 cylinder but not the 8?!

Re: Transmission Shudder

Just an update..

Early last week, my jeep decided to spring an ATF leak. My first thoughts were damn but then I realized it was probably due to the idiots at Pearson playing around in there in 2011. They did a sloppy job at resealing the transmission after the torque converter replacement. The sealant was bulging out at the front and wasn't enough around the sides and rear. In the process of swapping the torque, the dealership boo boo'd multiple driveshafts. Don't ask me how - I couldn't explain it if I tried. I'm not sure if they replaced the seals upon each new driveshaft, but that seal was also leaking. The guys at Friendship Chrysler in Bristol TN fixed it right up for me, though.

I just wanted to call and check on the status of the software update. They (Jeep) claim that it has "recently been released". The service manager stated that it is supposed to fix the fishbite. I have an appointment on Saturday to get the software update applied. We'll see!

Just as a heads up to all of the others waiting on this update. Can some of you guys call and question your service managers about this update? I'm really not trying to go down to the dealership, waste a Saturday morning, and be totally let down. He said it came out about a month / month and a half ago.
