Currently going thru this issue as well. Would not shift out of gear, CEL light came on. And had very harsh shifting even after the tranny updates. Especially 1-2 and 2-1. Like mentioned before, they worked with Chrysler ppl to determine cause was valve body and TCM (i believe they said its 1 piece) because dealer was perplexed. Dealer mentioned Chrysler said they are seeing this problem pop up.

They have had truck since Tues.

Thanks for the info regarding this being a simple fix. I really had no clue if it was complicated or not.

I will keep everyone updated.

After 8 days i got the truck back. It was shifting out of park fine (not speaking of the harsh shifting) from tues-thurs. then this morn it happened again. And the CEL light came on again. I took a video of it, but don't know how to post it. PM me if u want me to text u the video. Or how to upload.
I'll let you know what's going to happen this time @ the dealer.

To the OP, have you have good results with the fix?

I've had an issue similar to this happen to me twice now.. While backing out of my driveway, and into my parking spot at work I notice when in reverse if I give some gas (and not always) but it thuds and shifts on its own into neutral.

Once they got it back together, the transmission operated normally but was still throwing a code (MIL illuminated). Engineering determined it was a connector in the valve body that was not seated properly (from manufacturing). So, you guessed it, techs opened it up again and properly seated the connector. Once back together, all was good. On Monday the Case Manager from Chrysler is supposed to follow-up with me regarding my satisfaction with the repair. I sure hope this is behind us, especially since we're driving a fair distance for Thanksgiving.

Might be worth seeing if they will throw in an extra few years of power train warranty.

If you haven't, I'd certainly take it in to be looked at. We were lucky it failed in the driveway and not away from home.

Re: Transmission won't shift into reverse 2014 Limited

I had a similar problem over Thanksgiving holidays with my V6 Overland (3/13 build and 9500 miles). It would not shift into P or R and CEL came on. After restarting a couple of times it went into gear. Took it to out of town dealer and of course CEL off at dealer. They'd did find a code P1B14 for unintended park position but otherwise could find no issue and sent me on my way. Car drove normally rest of day but next day did same thing. I drove it to my home dealer and after performing diagnostics from Jeep engineering, they concluded transmission had failed and replaced the unit. Didn't have an explanation for what failed just that it wasn't a software issue. My service advisor said Jeep did not want them performing mechanical repairs on transmission and opted for replacing unit. I didn't have harsh or other shift issues with old transmission as others have reported except for too quick 123 shifts in ECON mode which got better after flash. But after limited driving with new transmission I would say it seems smoother and better behaved in all modes.

Any update on this issue?
