TSB 18-012-11 Rev.A 2011 builds

So I have had my Overland (V6) for a week now and love it. However I am experiencing all the same symptoms that other V6 owners have had with the early shifts into 3rd and slugglish responses from the transmission ESPECIALLY if there is any type of incline involved. The jeep can't maintain the desired speed and as you mash on the accelerator nothing happens until you force it to downshift to which you get an unnecessary
two gear downshft. I was beginning to wonder if it was just in my head since I have read so much about it online but my wife was with me the other day when driving and was like 'what the hell is up with that' when the jeep was acting up.

So my question is this...the TSB alludes to WK2's built prior 12-20-10 however my Overland was built early 03/2011. Shouldn't my jeep have this new update already? There is no way that previous WK2 owners would find this acceptable as an update. I'm going to call my dealer this morning but am I going to hit all the red flag/tape since my jeep was built way after the updated bild date specification?

Print out the TSBs, highlight the symptoms that are listed there which you have experienced and ask them to apply the update.

Some dealers have been very reluctant to apply the updates, but this process is likely to get the best response from them.

Re: TSB 18-012-11 Rev.A 2011 builds

Just did this Saturday... be respectful to them, as they don't want people just saying, "I want this update," but I told them my Jeep had bogged down a couple times, and I had some of the symptoms in TSB 18-012-11a, but they were the experts so I wasn't sure if that was it or not.

They agreed, loaded it, and it's been driving way better in the last couple of days. I mean just casual driving is a noticeably better experience, even outside the bog down issue.

Re: TSB 18-012-11 Rev.A 2011 builds

Just dropped it off at the dealer. Had the car salesman bring me back to the office since i'm like 2 miles away. Here's hoping they do it. He (service drive guy)seemed very unaware of the TSB but when I showed him my printout with the issues I've had highlighted and he was like...'oh okay we should be able to do that. Let me keep the paperwork so they know what to look for.'

Just received a call from my dealer and they said that my Jeep is ready for pick up and they applied the update. I'm shocked it went so smooth. I'm eager to see how it drives now. Oh and got a full tank of gas too

It is definitely improved. I am curious though how it will effect mpg's cause the gears seem to hold longer which helps with acceleration but I think would effect the mpg's. The big difference is going up inclines. It will simply go out of overdrive and accelearate like it's supposed to. I will say this though I think it's still adjusting cause everyday the car seems to feel different like it is still adjusting. Possibly cause it's still new. I mean I had the TSB done with 450 miles on the odometer.
One thing I'm realy waiting to see is anything above 18mpgs! I mean I seem to remember the sticker saying 22 for the hwy. I'd love to get up to at least 20! I guess I need to be patient. But man am I glad I have the V6! When gas goes back down I'll be saying man I wish I had the V8 but whatever...

Re: TSB 18-012-11 Rev.A 2011 builds

For V6 long distance highway mileage after the updates, see my Post#51 at this thread:
http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=12945&page=3

My V6 city mileage is OK, but not so great: in the 17 to 19 miles/US gallon range in the winter months.

Just had 18-012-11a done. I presented the service writer with the printout of the updated version (18-012-11 Rev. A) just to make sure that's the one they apply, not the one without the "a".

They also did the TSB for the ESC, which I didn't mention to them, and also replaced both rear shock mounts....apparenetly there is a TSB on that as well. They were very willing to do the TSB without a problem. Very good dealership.

Well, I drove the Jeep home and noticed a slight improvement, or was that just my mind thinking it's better. From the paper work they handed me as I left the dealership, the line item indicates 18-012-11...without the 'a'. Does that mean they did not apply the updated version or that's just how they indicate it on the line item? Is there another way for sure, besides asking the dealer, to ensure that it's 18-012-11a they applied? Are there other numbers on the paper work or sticker that would indicate the REV A version? REALM, what does your paper work say?

Re: TSB 18-012-11 Rev.A 2011 builds

From this thread, it would seem that the shift improvement is not being incorporated into production. So, if you want it, you apparently have to ask for the TSB regardless of the date of production.

This flies in the face of the December date indicated on the TSB. However, it might make sense because if they changed the shift behavior during production it would likely impact gas mileage and meeting CAFE requirements.
