Two acronyms... TIPM, WTF!

So. I'm currently deployed and my wife drives the jeep. She told me the remote start stopped working and convenient timing as she just had a baby only a few weeks ago and is in northern indiana! Well, she took the jeep to the dealership to have the remote start fixed(which I figured would be the switch cheap and easy because it said hood ajar start aborted) and after about 3 hours of tracing wires and bypassing the hood switch they narrowed it down to the TIPM. $1100 to fix it! Just outta warranty. WTF!? I've read tons of things about this problem and a law suit. No recall!? I'm gone and needed to depend on the jeep and it has let me down... This is the 4th Chrysler product I've owned. I called jeep warranty div and they are just "sorry". Anyone else had this problem with the TIPM? What to do what to do?

Re: Two acronyms... TIPM, WTF!

Totally Integrated Power Module. Is all that does not work the remote ? Still start with the push button ?

It should have set some trouble codes. What were they ? (U1145 ?)

Is there any independent mechanic locally she could trust ?

Might be related.

Yes I know it's the power module and there have been enough issues between grand cherokee and Durango to have a lawsuit... It only affects the remote start, for now. Another component within the module could go out too and vehicle could stall while driving or just not start at any time even by button... There are independent mechs near her and that's an option but I'm just hoping/wishing Jeep will come thru and help me out here! Oh and no codes whatsoever... They did a flash as well.

Re: Two acronyms... TIPM, WTF!

Same issue with our 2011 WK2, although it also effected normal starting not just remote start. The relay in the TIPM that controls the fuel pump was shorting out and thus not running the pump every time. They wanted to install a fuel pump relay bypass kit, effectively bypassing the TIPM for this function and leaving a faulty part in my vehicle. I refused this half-assed solution and started a case with Chrysler. Car was way out of warranty, but I convinced them to pay for half due to the known issues these vehicles are having with the TIPMs. I was without the car for a week, but worth saving $600 and letting Chrysler know this issue is affecting customer loyalty.. Hope your scenario worked out!

How far out of warranty? My entire transmission went once on a GMC Acadia I was about 500 miles over warranty and they took care of it out. Called it "Goodwill" I would keep pushing directly at Jeep.

Well... Waited about 3 weeks and no word from jeep. The dealership called and said jeep wasn't going to step in and take care of anything but they would... All I paid was $250! I'm very appreciative towards the dealer not so much Chrysler, though. It was 4000 miles past factory warranty and it's a known issue. Seriously!? Thank goodness for small local dealerships.

* they replaced the TIPM btw.

How much did they charge ya for that extended warranty!?
I bought an extended warranty for my ram but never needed it. I still probably won't ever get one again.
