I'm wondering if this option is just a waste of money.
You need to do a little reading here;

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - 2014 model year radios

This will explain the differences in the radios.

uConnect is not an option. It is a necessary part of the vehicle.

"uConnect Access" (available on the 8.4 radios) is a group of optional features including some apps, and the ability to remote start your car using an app. A recent thread shows that quite a few of us don't see much value in it. That doesn't mean we didn't opt for the better radios.

Funny story about locking keys in the car. I know someone else that has a 2014 and I was just telling her that you can't really lock the keys in the car anyway on these. Well she got out of the vehicle with it running to get something and a little dog was in the car and must have put a paw on the lock button while trying to look out the window and it locked. Had to call roadside assistance to open the door. It was brand new and the uconnect was not registered yet.

Re: Uconnect Access renewal

also, if you want NAV get the 8.4 AN - not the 8.4A with the nav installed. Its different and does not have all the same features.

Re: Uconnect Access renewal

Personally, I already have a GPS that I'm happy with. I could do fine with the 5.0 (RA2). In fact, having climate controls on a touch screen seems disadvantageous to me.

I paid the extra $395 for the upgrade 8.4A radio, and to me it was worth every penny (especially with having NAV added later for free...long story). The increase in screen size alone is a big help, especially with the backup camera. I now use the touch screen exclusively to operate the climate system, heat controls for the seats & steering wheel, as well as the radio functions. Not having to fumble around and take my eyes off the road to use my smart phone is a big plus as well. I do have to say that Chrysler charges way too much to activate the NAV on the 8.4A ($595)...they really need to drop that to under $300 to compete with standalone units from Tom Tom or Garmin.

The only "knob/lever" I find myself using these days is for the radio volume control/mute...either on the dash or back of the steering wheel.

Re: Uconnect Access renewal

The Mopar connect is a very expensive feature at $20 month for what it offers. The wi-fi add on, when you need it by the day or week has some use, I guess.
Remote start from anywhere? My FOB does the trick.
I'd rather just spend $10 for XM music only and maybe $4 for Nav gas/lodgings etc info. Even those items are on the edge of being needed. Mopar connect on what it now offers and does is a waste of $20 a month.
They seem like they are as bad as the cable companies.

Re: Uconnect Access renewal

I use a $249 8" Windows tablet for everything you seem to be doing including Sat-Nav plus read a slew of engine parameters. All I use is the hands-free phone (handled by the radio in my Crossfire) and the aux input jack.

Do have a $35/mo MiFi Verizon (plug) hotspot I can use in any car and with up to 5 devices but may just go to a tether from a Smart Phone.

My expectation of the future is that all of these add-ons will replaced by an amp, speakers, and an aux jack. Everything else will fit in your pocket.

ps Pandora has far superior sound quality compared to Sirius. I didn't renew that when the year ran out despite offers of $25 for 6 months.

pps only way I found to lock the fob in the car (other than multiple pushes) was to have one of the other doors on half-latch. My problem is the engine not shutting down when I press "Stop".
