I guess I am agreeing with Fumble. There are some intercompatability reasons that rooting makes sense.

This is not to say that the next Android release won't deal with this. I found a lot of problems with ICS (ice cream sandwich).... ALL of which were very well addressed in Jelly Bean. I used to be fairly close with one of the Google founding 50 guys and they are super focused on what people actually end up doing with their phones. If they figure they can improve their product by incorporating better external support I would place money on it that will be addressed in future releases.

Just saying that you may not need to root your device if you are not comfortable with that....(normally I don't). Google will very likely address this soon.

If you are rooted it isn't likely your carrier but for diagnostics on this level I would refer to one of the rooted specialist that are also discussing here. I just don't spend enough time on it to give you a good direction.

Will you say Google may very well address this soon. What exactly are they hopefully addressing? Grand Cherokee owners whose uconnect don't work?

Hahhaha. No, if only I had that kind of upstream influence.

Google will address message mapping in the near future. IOS 7 is a major change in IOS thinking.... Google always plays this game so expect some very cool things in the next 4 months. That is all I can say.

BTW.... Sudbury, you have an exceptionally beautiful truck. If I haven't said this before I want to point that out.

As for the UConnect stuff it is a small pain in comparison to the overall vehicle but it WILL get resolved.

Re: Uconnect and Cell phone considerations to ponder

Since I am interested in Wireless WIFI and hate the data limitation this forum has led me into new areas. I found that on Android devices that have been rooted WIFI tethering is a possibility. Some how I thought that option was already available on new Apple I5, Is4 and Samsung S4 and Motrola RAZR HD

Any data transfer incurred using wireless tethering will be deducted from the smartphone user's data allowance.

Verizon sales told me I could use these cells with my home WIFI cable router without using data minutes. Is Verizon sales bamboozeling me?

I use my phone as a wireless hotspot for 3G or 4G access all the time.

If you guys see me post on the weekends I am often doing this in the wilderness via a Wilson Cell booster.

.
Apparently Verizon dumped their Android Nexus phone and installed software that makes one pay for WIFI connectivity. There is a workaround blog available http://blogs.computerworld.com/smartphones/20726/android-wifi-hotspot
