Just got home from a business trip, and my wife said the CEL came on and she made an appointment @ the dealer. She said it has driven fine, so I hope it is a false alarm. My scanner pulled 2 codes, P0300 & P0302. Which is just great to see this can be another problem, besides my 730n failure 2 weeks ago. At 24,000 miles this car has been in the shop more times than my last 2 Honda Pilots combined for warranty work. Each Pilot had 90,000 miles when I traded them in. I was rooting for Jeep and Chrysler. I want American car companies to succeed, but if I have an engine problem, I won't buy American again.

Update: #2 is leaking exhaust, part on order. So it is an issue that can occur still, so 24K in mileage or 18 months old, you are not out of the woods. Next question, will Jeep provide a loaner car for what could be a 2 day repair?

I just got the the CEL and diagnosed with bad head. I was told that Jeep will not pay for a rental, even though its 2 days.

Re: V6 Cylinder Head Failure

Loaner/rental seems be more dealer choice than by CJF. Did expect the cyl head issue to return with warm weather though is not as much as last year.

BTW they word the advts very carefully but I am not sure that any profit remains in this country, it may go to Italy now. At least 68% of my heep was made here or in Canada, the sticker says so.

Re: V6 Cylinder Head Failure

I was in the dealer today to have my cruise button looked at. I was told they need to order a new module for that. I then was told that during diagnostics they found the CEL was going to come on in the next few starts and it was going to be due to the #2 cylinder. Sucks for me because I was planing a drive to Georgia but that isn't happening now. I have to wait till Monday to take it in.

Re: V6 Cylinder Head Failure

Suspect it is showing misfires. Would be interesting to know what the count was. I check mine at least monthly (average and last) but has been staying in the 0-2 range.

Re: V6 Cylinder Head Failure

Unfortunately the new extended warranty only seems to cover the left cylinder head (2-4-6). I had the left head replaced at 44300km (27500 miles), then drove ca 12000km (7500 miles) with no engine problem but now it is back. The engine vibrates like a old tractor but there is no misfire codes when plugging in a ODB reader. I suspect they changed the software to allow misfires without setting the codes.

Unfortunately my 3-year warranty runs out on 4 Aug (now basically) and I fear it is now the right (1-3-5) cylinder head this time. I went to see a dealership and they refused to take a look at it, said I would have to book in a few weeks from now to have it diagnosed. As I am going overseas for two month it will then probably be 3 months before I can have it checked.

Re: V6 Cylinder Head Failure

talk to a differenet dealship then - as long as you make the appt. before the warranty expires they should honor it - at least my local dealship does

Re: V6 Cylinder Head Failure

Still have the 100K mile power train warranty. So worse case -costs $100 deductible.

Re: V6 Cylinder Head Failure

With an OBD dongle and Torque Pro, one of the tests will display both current and history misfires by cylinder. I usually run about monthly. Have seen just 0-2 misfires. If over 100 I'd get concerned.
