Re: V6 High Pitched Sound

I was having this issue as well but to be honest I forgot about the sound and haven't noticed it for weeks. I forget to even listen for it now. I wonder if I should listen for it the next time I drive it....If I hear it I might start the frustrations all over again.

Perhaps its because with the AC and Ventilated seats on full blast and my stereo up I just don't hear it... I guess there are some benefits from the 109 heat we had in Dallas yesterday

The noise is much more likely the refrigerant in the expansion valve.
I'll take your word for it, but powered down audio components will indeed feedback from engine/AC. I've run into this problem on multiple custom audio installs in the past.

I get the high pitch sound with the hemi as well. It's not from the speakers, it's the A/C. Happens around 1000-1200 RPM when accelerating or decelerating. Have not had the dealer look at it yet since I'm still working through the defective air suspension issues.

This is exactly it. With the Hemi the noise only occurs between 1000-1200 rpm with the A/C on. I'm glad people can replicate this. I hope they find a solution to this annoying problem.

Re: V6 High Pitched Sound

I would like to join TylerC in reporting another successful fix for this issue.

As of my last post, the dealership had replaced the expansion valve in the A/C system, which had no effect on the problem. The service advisor told me that was as far as Chrysler would let them go and encouraged me to file a complaint with Chrysler, which I did. In the meantime I participated in a phone survey about the service visit. Apparently, the answers I gave prompted the service manager to get involved.

The service manager contacted Chrysler's engineering group. He told me that the engineering group is aware of this issue and has a fix for it. The fix has been part of the WK2 builds since mid-March (anyone here have a WK2 built after 3/17/11 that has the problem?). They are working on getting the fix out to the dealerships as a tech bulletin, but they were able to go ahead and get it to him so they could take care of my vehicle now.

The problem is a design flaw and has something to do with where a suction line is positioned in relation to the expansion valve and the compressor. The fix is to put in a jumper block, effectively repositioning where the suction line is located. I am happy to report that the fix works. The noise is completely gone.

I don't know whether it will help or not, but here is some information from the work order (I'm not sure who Tony Fife (mentioned below) is, but I assume he's the person they talked to in the engineering group):

24453101 Hose / tube - Replace Suction and liquid, junction block to expansion valve
1 55038201AE LINE-A/C SUCTION AND LIQUID
1 55038016AE LINE-A/C SUCTION

EVACUATE, REPLACE SUCTION HOSE FROM COMPRESSOR TO JUMPER TO EXPANSION VALVE PER TONY FIFE. RECHARGE SYSTEM AND VERIFY REPAIR.

Good news but now I'm not sure if I should wait for the TSB (assuming they telling you the truth) or have them try to fix it based on these posts. I was planning on bringing it in next week but now not so sure I shouldn't just wait for the "official" fix.

Would you mind posting your dealers name & location? I would like to give their service desk a call and see if they received a document from Chrysler for the fix that I might be able to hand to my service adviser pre-TSB.

Thanks
Brian

Re: V6 High Pitched Sound

Just checking in to report I'm going on about three weeks and no problems to report. The fix I reported previous seems to have done the trick. And it's very good to know that this forum is continuing to help others. And as a side note - I'm a business owner and there are many online forums that provide opportunity for negative people to post negative things about my business - mostly unwarranted. It is very refreshing to know that this forum is inhabited by intelligent folks who are simply looking for answers to a problem. Good work everyone. Let's hope this kind of supportive energy finds it's place elsewhere on the mostly idiotic internet arena.
