Valve Seals Powertrain Warranty

My 2012 Grand Cherokee with a 5.7 with only 31.5 K miles emits cloud of blue smoke when starting.

Only happens when the vehicle has been sitting for several hours.

I changed the plugs both plugs from cylinder #8 were oil fouled the rest looked ok.

Does anybody know if valve seals covered under Jeep’s limited Powertrain Limited Warranty?

My dealer can’t get the vehicle in for 9 days.

Should be! That's awful to have work valve seals at 31k! Could also be a PCV issue?

TSB 09-002-13 should take care of the problem. Requires a new oil pan.

Thanks I was looking for that TSB
The oil pan is listed on the 5/100,000 powertrain warranty.
I also read not to top off the oil.
Will find out next week when it goes to the dealer.

Also check and make sure you have the current version of the dipstick for the 5.7. The AD revision corrected the wrong length of the AC version

Re: Valve Seals Powertrain Warranty

It is likely that you just need a new dipstick.

Who does your oil changes? if you put in the prescribed amount of oil, this problem will likely go away. But.. if extra oil is added to make the too-short dipstick read full you'll probably get smoke.

on my '14 this would only happen after I let the dealer do an oil change.. but until the TSB about the dipstick came out I didn't make the connection..

Re: Valve Seals Powertrain Warranty

If yours was built after October 2013 you have the updated oil pan.

The dealer does the oil changes, they thew in a maint plan when we bought it.
It was changed last Thursday yes I checked it today and was overserviced about 1/4 inch above full.

I changed the plugs on Sunday both plugs from cylinder #8 were oil fouled, the rest were okay. The 2012 5.7L uses copper plugs so they're on 32K replacement schedule.

Maybe I should look at the PVC valve and lines maybe it's draining into the #8 intake port.

Make sure it only has 7 quarts and really only 7 quarts. Anything over will cause smoke on start when parked on incline. I have videos of mine that looks just like yours. I had the oil pan and windage tray changed but the wrong dipstick was still installed. The oil change guy was adding extra oil until the wrong dipstick read correct. They were putting in 8 quarts. Until we figured this out and the correct dipstick was installed I had smoke issues. Now with the correct dipstick and only 7 quarts there is no smoke.

Re: Valve Seals Powertrain Warranty

It's not smoking anymore I think it was overfilled.
I'm going to check the plugs this weekend.
