Valve Seat Dropped - Possible New Engine

So our V6 '12 Laredo has been in shop for a week and a half after coming to a shuddering stop on the freeway. It had been driving well until all of a sudden every warning light lit up and we started loosing power. The car started shuttering and shut down. Come to find today that one of the valve seats on the #6 cylinder dropped and it sounds like it got chewed up by the piston. The dealer didn't say if there was damage to the cylinder walls but my assumption is that there is given the nature of the problem. The kicker is that the engine has less that 18k miles on it and has been driven very gently since we got it. Dealer is waiting on Chrysler to see what they want to do but given the damage, it sounds like a new engine is a consideration. If not, I'm concerned about how good the techs are at rebuilding an engine after a problem like this.

I've been searching but has anyone else had this sort of problem? I've lost my confidence in the car and am wondering how amenable Chrysler will be to extending the warranty on the engine (whether new or rebuilt) given the problems we've had.

Unless the dealer is trying to hide something, I was told that this has nothing to do with the Cylinder head problem. Typically, the cylinder head issue will crop up as a ticking sound and eventually show as a warning light. This went from running fine to blown engine in a matter of minutes. As I have done more research, this is a known problem for the older Jeeps once they would get over 100k miles and had any overheating problems. I have yet to see anyone post about a dropped valve seat on the newer Jeeps.

My thought here is that we simply got an engine that had a manufacturing defect. Given how the car is driven (never been overheated/abused/etc) and the lack of miles on it, I dont see any excuse as to why a seat would drop into the cylinder and destroy the piston.
