Re: Vibration at idle (Pentastar)

My Laredo is 1 year old and has done 19k km (ca. 12000 miles I believe) and it now has a fair bit more vibration at idle, both felt and heard and with or without aircon, than when it was new. It's a shame because it was extremely quiet and smooth when new.

Re: Vibration at idle (Pentastar)

Hi,

My 2012 JGC is only 3 weeks old, September build. Today it has developed a vibration shudder when idled. I can hear and feel it is coming from the engine compartment, heard for a good 2 seconds and comes and goes.. It does not make any different to the RPM, or with A/C on or off. Drive is normal.

Anyone else have this problem? v6 Petrol.

On another forum, someone suggested it to be the AC compressor and TXV, what ever that is. I'll will bring it up with my dealer.. The problem does happen when it's warm or when the engine is warmer from longer runs.

Re: Vibration at idle (Pentastar)

With a Pentastar first thing I would do is connect a good OBD-II scanner and see if there are any misfires recorded particuarly for #2 or #4. These will show up before a CEL.

It is a good way to sell a lifetime warrenty.

Hi there,
Run the car around the block without the AC on as spirited as you can drive it within the speed limit so it is nice and hot. See if you get the noise. If not, do the same again with the AC on and try it. If you get the noise and vibration for around 2 seconds every 7 or eight seconds, it is your TXV and compressor guaranteed. There are several failures here in Oz of these components. looks like a common fault. Good luck.

Re: Vibration at idle (Pentastar)

Some of us like to know what the engine is doing and spending less than $50 on OBD equipment (bought mine on Amazon with free shipping) for a $40k car is just in the noise.

Personally, I like knowing exactly what an engine is doing and having a PentaStar, I check the misfire history about every fillup, my preference is not to have surprises. Being able to read a number of engine parameters at the same time (plus a clock when the Sat radio is on) as well as fault codes is something I have had in cars since the '80s.

If not you must like being surprised.

Yeah, sorry I forgot to mention that. Mine got buckled when they re-installed the cowl after installing thev TXV and I have a gap between that and the windshield. Fortunatly I'm getting a new one as well as new headlamps due to the fogging caused by the DRL's all under warranty.
