When the dealer was testing mine compared to others on the lot, we found this issue only happens with the V6 (mine is far worse than most). The Hemi has the hydraulic power steering. The corporate FS tech did state that the 2014 does have a different controller vs. what was used on the 13s. I've noticed on my jeep that the vibration will oscillate. Meaning it will get very strong for a few miles, then subside, and back to full intensity again.

Re: Vibration in the 2014 grand cherokee summit

I've noticed a humming/slight vibration up front on my '14 GC Overland. It is not there at high speeds. I am almost positive this sounds is not supposed to be there. My vehicle has the Hemi and 4 wheel drive. This is my first four wheel drive vehicle so not sure if the sound of gears whining is normal.

Did this vibration not show up when you test drove the vehicle before taking final ownership - just wondering?
I have had vibrations on my 2000 TJ for ever - I swear I first noticed it the day I drove it home from the dealer. It developed into a full on "death wobble". Just had steering box, front-drag link and steering dampner changed, and the death wobble (over bumps) is gone, but vibration over 60mph is still there. Had two tires switched out and eased the issue, but will prob have to have other tires switched as well. And all this ahead of buying a GC next year. If I noticed vibration in a new $45k vehicle I would go nuts!
Good luck with it!

Re: Vibration in the 2014 grand cherokee summit

Had the Jeep in at the dealer again today to attempt to fix the vibration issue as described here. They have tried the balance and rebalance several times to no avail, different wheels and tires nada, so...today engineers came onsight to work on it and swap parts with the other 14 on the lot. They (Engineering) stated they are getting reports of this issue on other 14s as well. Jeep engineering is consulting with the field service and dealer techs to resolve. I hope so soon, this is my 6th trip for this issue - gets old driving it distance with the constant shimmy on a $45K vehicle. I know the Summit folks have it worse ($$$) than that. They report they will have more information before the end of the week.

Re: Vibration in the 2014 grand cherokee summit

Took my 2014 Jeep Summit in for service again...to determine the cause of vibration/shimmy. Dealer installed new front-drive shaft and installed set of new wheels. No success...vibration/shimmy still exist. it seems to have gotten worst with the installation of the new front drive shaft. The next thing they are going to do is install a new rear drive shaft (dealer analysis). so i will have to go back to the dealer for the 7th time in a couple of days to have a new rear drive shaft installed. I hope everyone has a "STAR REPORT" started at their service dealer....Chrysler needs to see that we are having vibration problems with the new Jeeps.

The FS engineer had the vibration analyzer with him today. They are expected to give me the full report of what they found by Friday.

Re: Vibration in the 2014 grand cherokee summit

I have at the dealers six times in five weeks . I am told a Chrysler tech will be there next Tuesday and he is going to hook a vibration sensor to isolate the problem.
Have you noticed any steering wheel shake when applying the brakes fairly hard from about 45 mph .
The Jeep has brand new rotors that the dealer put on and I checked the run out on the rotor face and hub face where the wheel mounts , everything is less than a 0.001" run out.
We have tried new wheels and tires off of another 2014 Grand Cherokee and it was actually worse .
I filed a case with Chrysler .
Please let me know what Chrysler comes up .

Thanks
Bob

Re: Vibration in the 2014 grand cherokee summit

Latest information on vibration 60 mph and above. Chrysler tech supposedly looked at vehicle and they suggested new tires . They installed another set of the Fortera's again , they couldn't get the Michelin Latitude . Vibration is actually worse , comes in at lower speed.
I installed two new front tires Firestone Destination yesterday , didnt make a difference , vibration is still there .
The vibration has to be coming from something else in the driveline .
Is this only four wheel drive or does it include rear wheel drive vehicles?
I find it hard to believe that people have stated this issue for a number of years and Chrysler doesn't or wont admit cause .

Re: Vibration in the 2014 grand cherokee summit

I have a 2014 V6 Summit and mine is perfectly smooth at all speeds. I have 3100 miles on it and hope it stays that way. I am very curious about what is happening with those reporting vibration that can 't be easily solved. It can't be inherent in the design or mine would do it too. I am commenting in this thread in case my comments are of any value towards a solution, and also to better understand what is going on that could affect me down the road.

Re: Vibration in the 2014 grand cherokee summit

CLESTINEMUSIC...Is your Summit a 4-wheel-drive. Most of the complaints with vibration seems to be from people who own 2014 Jeep summits 4x4. The dealer renewed my front-drive-shaft...Problem with vibration/shimmy still exist. Changed-out all 4 wheels....Problem with vibration/shimmy still exist. The next thing the dealer is going to do is renew the rear-drive-shaft next week. I will post the results.

Re: Vibration in the 2014 grand cherokee summit

Just wanted to ask of those of you who have a 2014 Summit as well. I purchased my first Summit on 6-17-13 and had a tremendous problem with car blowing blue smoke. Worked with my customer care rep as well as dealership. The vehicle had oil in the upper intake manifold as well as other places it does not belong. Long story they replaced the vehicle a week and a half ago with a new 2014 Summit...... Guess what happened today when I started vehicle up again? Blue smoke everywhere!!!! Is anyone having a similar problem?
