Vibration on 2014 Overland on speeds over 65 mph

I have been noticing that I get vibrations on the truck when i go over 65 mph. I took it to the dealership this past Tuesday and they said it the wheels needed to be balanced so they did that. Yesterday on my way home, the vibration is back. Very noticeable on the steering wheel. Now the weird thing is that this morning, it did not do it, so I am a little puzzled as to why it is happening. From what i can see, it seems to happen when the truck is on hot weather, as it has been cool here in the morning and hot in the evenings. Any ideas/advice as to what it could be?

Thinking about taking it to dealer so they can do alignment on it and see if that fixes it. Although they already said that would not cause the vibrations which did not make sense as with some of my previous trucks, when not aligned, they vibrated.

Could be the tires, too, not just the alignment. May be one or more that is "bad"...

That is true too. Or possibly a bent wheel. Although, I am not sure how that would have happened/be the case since it just started happening in the last 2 weeks.

I would think that if it only does it in hot weather, it probably is a tire problem that is aggravated when the tire gets hot. I'd have all the tires inspected at a good tire shop. Just my two cents. Good luck at solving the issue.

I would need to agree with others, Alignment can contribute to an issue however it is usually more consistent than that.

As they are the front wheels (steering feel) with the issues it is always worse. Go to the dealer and complain, and do it when it is warm and doing it. As part of the diagnostic you can suggest that they move the front tires to the back. Make sure it is noted on a work order that they did this as it may make it go away but the fact is there is still likely a bad tire.

It is the Fortera's and you will read elsewhere in this Forum that there are people who have issues with that tire. I have a similar issue to what you describe on the Durango with the exact same Forteras that I am driving now.

I appreciate the advice. I had intended to take it yesterday after work since it had done it the day before when driving home. However, it did not vibrate at all while driving home. So I'm going to see how it goes Monday and go from that. I'm just a little puzzled as to why it only happens from time to time. I'm really hoping it's just a tire and nothing else.

I actually have the same thing.... Drove the truck with stock wheels and tires the were fine....then had my cooper Zeno Liz 275/55/20 put on which I had on my other truck with no problem....coopers on new rims there is a vibration above 75 and also when hot at lower speeds

That may be a Road Force / rim match issue.

May not be heat related.... drive at highway speed, pull over, do a circle and drive at highway again. You may need to repeat a couple of times. If two front tires are slightly out they can sometimes line up in rotation offset to cause a vibration. As long as your circle is always the same direction it changes the line up.

Makes it easier to replicate to the dealer.

I think I'm gonna have my friend high speed balance everything again because its quite annoying...and I'm definitely not getting rid of those coopers they look awesome!

It may or may not fix the issue. Hunter makes a machine called a Road Force Balance. It runs the Rim and Tire weights separately. As the Rim has a heavy spot and so does the tire (nothing that big is 100% prefect) the Roadforce units will tell the tech how to make those two opposite each other. What happens sometimes is the unit balances out properly but the assembly has a total centrifical force at highway speeds under pressure (basically the amount of outwards force the tire is exerting on the suspension etc). Max this can be is around 26 pounds and you have problems. If you get it below 20 on a truck like this you will never feel anything.

Anyway, it has been my experience there are not that many shops that have one of these machines and I have worked with some shops to actually use each others. Sometimes this is just the only way. MOST tire manufactures recognize a tire that is out of spec based on this balance method, some will give you grief. Trust me though if these machines come up and tell you the tire is bad after a rim match (and the machine is properly calibrated) you will never get the vibrations to stop, no matter how many balancing you go through.

When the dealer swapped the tires they Road force balanced... And didn't say anything was wrong.. I'm going to have a rebalance done and see... I have bought lifetime replacement on these tires
