Re: Void Warranty by importing

Sarkat's experience bring up another point. I've seen american cars (used) being sold up here on the dealer lots. What happens regarding warranty? Perhaps they offer a third party warranty.

It's great for the dealers because their margins are huge selling used american cars at canadian used car pricers. Bigger margins than selling a brand new car.

Poor Canadians are still getting ripped off by Chrysler (and most other car manufacturers for that matter). That Overland you just bought costs about $15k more in Canada than in the US. Complete BS as far as I can see--how does it cost Chrysler $15k more to ship the same Jeep from Detroit to Toronto as opposed to Buffalo?

Now, if you have any warranty issues, just drive your car back to the US and make a little trip/vacation out of it. (Lots of my friends do that--drive over to Buffalo for the wknd, get some shopping in and get the car checked out under warranty)
Called taxes and supporting socialism - nothing Chrysler can do anything about

Re: Void Warranty by importing

The point is that I should not have to buy an additional warranty when it already has one. I realize people buy extended warranties all the time, and thats fine, I just don't understand the cancelling of the original. Makes no sense. As a post said earlier it is probablly pressure from Canadian dealers because they are putting the screws to us. It happens on all forms of vehicles and rec vehichle. Saved 15K on my holiday trailer last year. The warranty is still good just dealers refuse to work on them, go figure.

Wow! thats a great solution. You can save thousands buying in america and then just purchase an extended warranty. I'm assuming an extended warranty may cost $2,000-$3,000 maybe?.

thats still cheaper than buying in canada. also, chances are someone would end up getting an extended warranty anyway if they had bought a GC in canada.

Re: Void Warranty by importing

Hi,

I just bought a US registered 2011 Overland Summit in February and am under the same cloud.

I have a small problem with the Blind Spot Monitoring and the Park Assist, and I have the saddle interior seats with the color fading on the drivers seat, with wrinkling.

Based on what I read, these are warrantee fixes, and I don't expect much from the local dealer.

We should keep in touch.

Re: Void Warranty by importing

Hello everyone,

I am in the process of importing a 2012 Laredo. Does anyone know of a good 3rd party warranty company where I could buy some basic powertrain coverage?

I contacted Chryslerwarranty.com and they said that there warranty is only valid for U.S residents.

Thoughts ideas?

Thanks!

IIRC you can service your Jeep while traveling in Canada or Mexico but it doesn't cover when you move there. What usually happens in the extended warranty is voided and refunded.

Re: Void Warranty by importing

For those that have imported a US WK2 into Canada, how did you deal the vehicle immobilizer issue that is listed on the RIV website for the WK2? How did you prove the vehicle had an immobilizer?

Re: Void Warranty by importing

Back a couple of years ago when I bought my MDX, Canadians on the Acura forum were complaining about the same price difference and warranty issues.

And to add insult to injury, the MDX was being built in Canada.

Re: Void Warranty by importing

The sales literature talks about the immobilizer. I imported my 2011 into Canada, and RIV didn't even mention it.
