Yep --- for me too. I woulda selected a lesser plan but Lifetime Max for $2K was too good for resale. Almost toyed with the $0 deduct for one heck of a resale deal.

Risk is you total the vehicle...then gotta get a new one and say goodbye to warranty.

If you buy in Florida and reg in another state is lifetime still transferable or you have to buy & reg in FL?

Re: Warranty and Service Maintenance Plans

^^^ Dunno. All it states is that it is transferable in Florida. I would think it would NOT matter who the buyer is. Moreover, the contract was sold in Florida so Florida law applies even if I moved to another state then sold. I'm not too concerned myself since Florida is a big state and someone in Florida will probably end up buying mine anyway. A good question though.

^^^ Good question for Pat @ FieldsJeep - he might know. I'd imagine though that one has to live/be a resident in FL to be able to transfer it.

Another good question- A FL resident buys the contract from a dealer in Michigan, are you allowed to transfer or since it was bought in MI you disqualified yourself... It might have to be sold out of Florida.

^^^ Doesn't matter where you buy the service agreement. I bought mine online. My address is Florida on the application.

Re: Warranty and Service Maintenance Plans

No I realize your address is Florida, and that is what will show on the warranty work, but it was sold by a dealer outside of Florida. Does that no longer make it transferable being sold by a dealer outside of Florida regardless if you live in Florida or not?

Same goes for people outside of Florida, if you buy the plan from a dealer in Florida are you now able to transfer the contract regardless of where you live since you purchased it in/from the state of Florida. Yes it might show you live in say Texas, but you bought the contract from a dealer in Florida.

ELSE- the dealer has nothing to do with the sale- they submit your info to chrysler corporate and they get paid XX dollars over cost and chrysler corporate handles all of it, then obviously all that matters is where you live and not who sold it.

Re: Warranty and Service Maintenance Plans

It doesn't matter who sells it, that I know for a fact. The open question is that if the buyer was a Florida resident can the buyer later move out of state and still transfer it and vice versa if bought in another state and moved to Florida. Also, if the 2nd buyer affects anything? The brochure says "TRANSFER POLICY
Plan is ONLY transferable in the state of Florida ($40 transfer fee) and North Carolina ($50 transfer fee)."

Re: Warranty and Service Maintenance Plans

I shot an email off to get some clarification. I think you have to register the vehicle and warranty in florida for it to be transferable.

My reasoning behind this thought, I sold a Jeep to a guy in Canada, the 3 yr/36k bumper to bumper warranty did not transfer with the vehicle to Canada. He did buy an ext warranty thru Chrysler and that became void as well. Chrysler first told us he could go back to the states to get warranty repairs done but then they flagged it and he has no warranty here or in Canada. Nice right? Worst part is Chrysler wouldn't give him the full amount back that he paid for the warranty so we picked up the difference. Talk about a hard call to make, telling a Knight( not kidding) hey we can't do anything here for you, but try to make you whole on this deal. So we pretty much now pick up the tab for the parts if he has issues and he pays the labor at a dealer near him. We knew new vehicles for "export" lost the warranty but we didn't know used vehicles did and we didn't know that Canada was considered export. Lesson learned that's for sure.

Weird part about the service contracts in FL, according to Chryslers info, per law dealers have to sell ext warranties at MSRP.

Re: Warranty and Service Maintenance Plans

You mean they can't mark it up ? At the same time we have a number of insurance companies here that make most of their profits by denying claims, why I am only interested in factory backed.

Knew by law cracked windshields are covered under comprehensive with no deductable. We have lots of retirees here with nothing but time to badger Tallahassee.

Have to pick up some parts so will ask the dealer about the "lifetime". From what I have seen the price is the same as long as under 12 and 12 so might as well wait for a coupon.

In Florida dealer has to charge everyone the same dealer fee no matter what. So you negotiate the price (such as the affiliate) then they further deduct the fee amount then charge you the fee.

I think you are right...must be registered in Florida the vehicle and the warranty then it is transferable after that. Would make sense. Then any subsequent move by the seller or if a buyer is out of state it is transferable too...so long as originally registered in Florida.
