New 2017 trailhawk that I just picked up yesterday. Great vehicle so far but I'm pissed that I'm seeing water in the headlights. It was cold out last night and I've seen the TSB for it but both headlights have a good amount of condensation/water in them. I'm now seeing water stains in them afterwards and there's no way I'm satisfied with this at all. I made an appointment with my dealer for Friday. Does anyone think based on the video I took below, they will replace the lights? I know it's a brand new vehicle but if there's water stains in the light showing up and that much water getting in, they should be replaced. Anyone else share a similar experience? https://youtu.be/2lD8gNdAFBk
TSB mentions condensation is fine, droplets are not. Clearly those are droplets. And I would go ballistic if I had deposits like that on the inside of the lens. Fight to get them replaced if they deny you at first, but I doubt they will.
Yeah I'm giving jeep a call now cause they are already giving me a hard time. I compared it to another jeep on the lot and the guy said it's normal. I showed him the video and the picture and he refused. Unbelievable that's why I'm calling jeep now.
Guys more concerned about who's gonna pay him for it. Said hold on to it for a few more weeks and if it gets worse bring it back. I said are you kidding me? There's already lines of dried up water on the inside how could it get any worse? Just going to a new dealer
I spoke to a very nice jeep loyal specialist who is assisting me with another dealership for service. I got told by her the same thing but that once moisture builds up in the light again, it will remove those streaks. My only concern is if it doesn't happen again then I'm stuck with those streaks. We'll see though, hoping this issue gets resolved with the new dealer
So just took a 20 minute video of the lights while the engine was running. They looked like this picture the whole time. As you pause and scroll through the video, you can see the water droplets running down on the inside of the light. This is enough proof to get something done. I have an appointment with my dealer Friday morning. The lights will be fine during the day but as soon as you start the jeep and start driving with just the DRL on, water starts building up in the blinker area. Even with the HID light on it's still an issue. Wish me luck
Thanks I appreciate it. Do you know how the claim process usually works? I hear they take pictures and submit them to Chrysler for approval but does it take long to do or is it same day? That's if anyone has had experience with this before
I had to do a warranty claim on my 2012 RAM a while ago due to paint defects. You are correct, they take pictures and submit them to Chrysler for the "ok" to make the repair. It's not going to be a same day decision, it may take a few days for them to get back to you and get the parts ordered.
Right, I don't get it either. A little R&D money up front on Chrysler's end to eliminate these issues would save them a lot on the back end. Quality control just doesn't seem to be a priority anymore unfortunately. Just like MDBones mentioned, over the course of 3-4 years they couldn't fix these problems?
I'm also noticing a scratch on the housing lense bulb. There's also pieces of hair and dust getting in now. Ridiculous there must be some type of opening
Update: dealer acknowledged a problem with the headlights when I gave them the tsb. Wasn't clearing up after 20 minutes so they ordered me another pair and should be in on Tuesday. On the road to recovery lol
Well got the new headlights and this is what is happening again. This time though it only happens in the turn signal area and doesn't reach out to the rest of the light. Im trying to think if it has anything to do with it being cold out. Its not normal condensation its water drops. I made an appointment with the dealer again for Friday but am wondering if its worth going through another replacement. I don't get why this keeps happening
I can understand light fogging of the lens in cold/damp weather. I had that on my 14 and I see a really small amount around the LED DRL strip occasionally on my 16. As the headlight lens cools after shutting the lights off, it disappears.
I can't see or find any excuse for heavy condensation like that to form and I wouldn't tolerate that. It may be that the replacement headlight assemblies you had installed came from the same defective batch the TSB claims need replacing and that they still have some of them floating around in their parts distribution system. From past personal experience, that actually happens.
You have every right to get what you paid for, water INSIDE the lens is never acceptable, especially if the vehicle is brand new. I'd take it back again and have them replaced. You can't seem to catch a break, but hopefully you will soon.
I had the same issue with both headlights needing to be replaced on my 17 SRT due to water and condensation... So far so good with the new headlights they gave me. Hopefully the next headlight they give you fixes the issue.
Is there any component that plugs into the headlights that could have a bad seal and is causing this? I find it almost impossible that 2 original and 2 replacement headlights would all cause this much water to form up... unless there was a bad batch of them.
The only component I see on the back is that power outlet port. This picture was found online and not of my actuall headlight unit. I doubt its that, that would be causing a leak like this
Update: so dropped the jeep off today along with photos to show what I'm dealing with. The headlights already had lots of condensation built up inside of them when I drove in to the dealership. A tech rep apparently looked at my vehicle for 20 minutes and then parked it somewhere ( I'm going by the uconnect app where it gives you an update time on fuel and oil life for 2016 and up vehicles. Helps knowing when your jeep was last started lol). anyways they want to keep it for a few days till a Chrysler rep comes down on Monday or Tuesday to look at the lights. They said since they already replaced them once and im still having the issue, a tech has to come down and approve another claim I suppose. So im jeep less for a few days. Hopefully this "Chrysler rep" approves it, cause it does take at least an hour for condensation to start building up heavily in the lights. Don't want to hear the "looks fine to me motto". Anyways wish me luck.
Best of luck, based on the information you have and the pictures I can't see any logical reason why this would be denied, it's a viable claim for sure.
Well claim was denied. Based on Chrysler decision this is "normal" and the condensation goes away when it doesn't. It hasn't been too bad recently as I guess they are starting to open open but it still happens. Theres a water stain to in the drivers light that isn't too noticeable unless a light is shinning on it but of course they won't do anything about it. Case manager is closing this case. 2nd dealer I went to. Guess I lost this one. Nothing else I can do at this point
