Water in spare tire well

My Aunt has a 2011 that seems to have developed a leak. She's getting water collecting inside the spare tire well. The dealership ran a hose over her Jeep for more than an hour and couldn't find any signs of a leak. But she's still getting water in there. Has anyone else ran into this?

Re: Water in spare tire well

Haven't seen this problem reported before, and it is not listed in the TSB on water leaks.
So if carpet and the interior of the liftgate are not wet, and dealer ran the hose on top, it seems water may be entering from below the floor. If it was mine, time to empty the spare area, check all body plugs, wire grommets, etc. Pull and add silicone sealant to any that look suspect. Check for any defective body seams.
Good luck.

Re: Water in spare tire well

Best test is a (brushless) carwash with undercarriage spray.

Hi MSCA. Did you ever find any answers regarding this problem? I have this problem, too. Thanks.

The problem was fixed. I don't know what they did to fix it though. I'll ask my aunt if she still has her receipt.

Re: Water in spare tire well

Okay, it looks like the weather stripping around the rear hatch/door was completely replaced. This was before I took possession of the vehicle, so I can only assume that's what did the trick. I stays dry inside now.

Re: Water in spare tire well

My spare tire well looks like a kiddie pool. I have had the car for 4 days, I insisted they give me a new vehicle or give me my 2011 back! The dealer is looking for another one for me.

Re: Water in spare tire well

Did you check the TSB ? Fig. 2 in particular. If one of those grommets is out it will leak (but usually on the cargo cover).
