Water on INSIDE of Windshield?

I just wanted to post and see if anyone else has seen this issue. Jeep is a 3 day old 2012 w/ under 100 miles. I drove the vehicle to work this morning and outside temp was in the upper 30s. The Jeep sat out in the parking lot for approximately 9 hours and the high today was in the low to mid-40s and sunny. When I got into it this afternoon I noticed quite a bit of water drops and condensation inside the windshield. The defroster eventually cleared all of it up after about 20 minutes. I have never seen anything like this on any of my other vehicles...any suggestions? Or is the WK2 just so well insulated? I noticed it was pretty warm inside (almost greenhouse like) after sitting outside all day...first pic is right after I got in and had the defroster for a minute or so. The second picture is roughly 5 minutes later. I understand that some haze inside is normal during the winter, I have just never seen a lot of water like this.

Re: Water on INSIDE of Windshield?

Iíve been experiencing the exact same problem on my 2011 (built July 2010) and posted on 11/8:

http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=30846

Iím considering bringing it back to the dealer and asking them to perform the water leak TSB (leak at lower corners of windshield?), but my dealer is not always eager to perform the TSBs for me. They will probably give me some off the wall excuse for the condensation INSIDE the windshield. I do seem to notice it more a day or two after it rains or I wash the truck. If it is a windshield leak I would have thought it would have been resolved before the 2012s were released.

Re: Water on INSIDE of Windshield?

Considering temperatures/length of time/humidity it does not seem unusual to me.

Re: Water on INSIDE of Windshield?

Looks like normal condensation. I've seen this before on other vehicles. It is usually caused by rapid temperature changes combined with the amount of sunlight hitting the glass...and yes, it is well-insulated. That's what keeps the noise level down.

Re: Water on INSIDE of Windshield?

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys. Like I said, I am coming from a 2002 Tahoe, so definitely no where near as insulated! This weekend I am going to pick up a sunshade that fits, so I'll have to see if that makes any difference.

Good luck with the sunshade. Iíve been using one since day one and the condensation still occurs. Iíve owned a bunch of cars in my time, but this is the first to have more condensation on the INSIDE of the windshield than on the outside.

Re: Water on INSIDE of Windshield?

I had this happen with my new Laredo X this past Monday. It was continual rain all day. At lunch time, the windows were fine. But when I came outside after work, my front and rear windows were both completely fogged up. Nobody else's cars were. I actually had to sit idle waiting for the defroster to do something because they were so fogged up it wasn't driveable.
It's not happened again, but it's not rained since then, either. Hopefully it was just a fluke.
I have no sunroof, so can't be sunroof water leaking into the A-pillar like I've seen other posts suggesting.

Re: Water on INSIDE of Windshield?

I alwayscrun the jeep with the ventilation running on Auto. If you drive short trips the airco can dry the inside air. But not everyone in using the airco everyday.
When shut off the condensation could come on on rainy days.. When always driving in auto, the airco is almost always on, preventing condensation.

Re: Water on INSIDE of Windshield?

get something that reads relitive humidity see if it seems unusually high especially as compared to outdoor conditions if it is reading high than perhaps there is in fact some water intrusion

lookig at the first pic it seems as though the fog pattern is directly related to the placement of the defroster deflector vanes. looks like the fog is coming from within the venting system, perhaps the drain for the a/c is pinched and is holding water remember the compressor on new vehicles runs in more that just the a/c setting

I noticed thisfor the first time the other night after work. I think the change in temp and the sun going down played a big part of it. Hope it isntanything more and hope it doesn't become a bigger problem through the winter.

Re: Water on INSIDE of Windshield?

This morning I went to start the Jeep and discovered frost on the INSIDE and outside of my windshield. Guess I should not have been surprised since I’ve had so much condensation building up on the inside over the past few weeks. The last time the Jeep was “wet” was on 12/9 when I washed the vehicle. After 3 days of sunshine and dry weather there should not be ANY moisture inside the vehicle. To speed up the melting process I had to run a hair dryer for about 20 minutes. This is getting a bit crazy. I don’t remember having this issue last winter. I already checked the ususal suspects: the coolant level appears stable, the carpets/foot wells are not wet and I don't have the sunroof option. Appreciate any suggestions or ideas. Thanks!
