What's going on people I haven't been on here in a couple of years anyway thanksgiving eve on my 2012 grand Cherokee altitude 4x4 hemI with only 33k miles on it I noticed smoke coming from the hood!..I then looked underneath the jeep and it looked like Niagara Falls I then open the hood and see fluid gushing out just under the belt ! So anyone one else have their water pumps fail!
Just happened to me. One month after oil change and tune up engine started to overheat. Checked coolant, gone. Opened up and looked under engine, had coolant all over underside. Turns out WaterPump was leaking and had to be replaced. No idea why or how but lucky to have it fixed before I broke down somewhere.
2013 Hemi and my water pump went out too, somewhere around 40,000 miles. The engine was making a very slight, but odd noise and that's what it turned out to be. Nothing odd other than the noise, I'm sure had I waited other issues would have shown up.
So they just keep putting the same defective version back in without revising it. Any variations on the part number revisions on you reciept. AB to AC or anything like that?
- oil & filter changed every 3K
- K&N lifetime air filter (100).
- Winter tires: Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 SUV factory studded (used 4 seasons to date - 35.7K with 9mm of tread left) Now on 5th season.
- OEM tires - replaced Michelin Lattitude with Cooper Discover At3 (34K - driven mlles)
- plugs replaced with OEM once (47K)
- passenger side blend door gear (78K)
- brakes/rotors all 4 (81.7K)
- New battery - Interstate MT5-94R/H7 (91.4K)
- front/rear axle/transfer case fluid changed (91.5K)
Man I threw a fit about mine they replaced the Idlers and thermostat All under warranty. But I went through the SRT hotline to find an SRT dealer they must of just replaced all because of warranty
Thanks, have you noticed any rhyme or reason to the failures. such as are most of the early failures before 50k or are they from people who work the engines hard such as trailer towing. or is totally random some fail some don't no way of predicting. I don't mind taking it in to get it changed but my bigger concern is this stranding me in the middle of nowhere.
I just replaced mine at 29k (hemi). Didn't have any symptoms other than a faint grinding sound at idle. I popped in to the dealer as I was driving by and a master tech happened to walk by. I asked him about the noise and he goes "yep - water pump. Can you leave it?" They gave me a ride home and it was done less than three hours later.
They also said I had carbon buildup as well as air filter mold. I said "pass" to both but he said they would take care of both for free, just don't mention it when I come in. Were they just fishing for non-warranty work?? It felt much peppier when I got it back but I'm 51% sure that was all in my head.
