Weird whining noise when going in reverse.

I don't know if anyone else experienced this but when I go in reverse, I hear a weird whining noise. It's almost like axle or gear or something needs lubrication or something. I just hope it's not a transmission issue. I only have 8k miles on the truck.

Also, the other day as I was slowing down from 30mph to 0 the transmission down shifted very hard. It was almost like it went from 2nd gear to 1st forcefully and there was a bang. I couldn't replicate the problem though so I don't know whether it was a fluke or what. I get very paranoid with this truck.

I have that moaning noise occasionally when backing up. I haven't been able to associate it to any use pattern. I imagine it's not supposed to be that way, but everything seems fine otherwise. Not going to complain to the dealer until it gets worse and more consistent... it's so infrequent that they are likely to just brush it off or say they can't replicate it.

hmm, thats good to know. do manual transmissions have this same issue? my WK2 is the first auto car i've owned in awhile, maybe thats why i'm noticing it more.

I hear/feel the moan as soon as i put it in reverse - almost like a PTO unit shifting over. But no sounds etc when actually in motion - just for a moment when you actually put it in to reverse.
Any thoughts?

Did anyone ever take there jeep in to get this checked? My GC now got 25k miles on it and for the first 23k it never made this noise until now. And also when making a tight turn the back wheels are grabbing as if there is a locker in the back. It is a graoning sound under a little acceleration in reverse.

Some amount of noise is normal when in reverse, my experience is it is more of a whine in my previous cars. It is hard to know the difference between normal noise and "something's wrong"noise through brief descriptions on a forum. Perhaps you could get a video and other owners could compare it to what they are hearing?

Both my 2014 and 2015 have done this. It's kind of a humming/rubbing noise in reverse that you can sometimes feel too. My dealer service manager and I went and tried out a bunch of 2014/2015 WK2s, new and used (he was curious too) and about 50% did it to varying degrees. My 2014 did it worse than my 2015 does. It seems to be only the 4WD versions (unless someone here can say otherwise) and our guess was that it's the clutch pack in the transfer case and is probably normal for operating in reverse. That's as far as our investigation went though as it didn't seem harmful...just weird.
