What comes with the jack/spare tire area?

Can someone tell me what is supposed to come in the jack/spare tire area? The foam piece has the jack and the bars to raise it, but there is an empty area in the foam like there should have been something there.

Is that space supposed to be empty to fit tow straps or a hitch or should my Jeep have come with something there?

The only thing that came with my Overland Summit was the envelope cargo net and a wire in glovebox for trailer brakes. Anything else missing?

In the link below there is a picture of the spare wheel compartment that shows something in on the left foam space...

Re: What comes with the jack/spare tire area?

I think there's space there to store your hitch (the part that slides into the receiver).

Re: What comes with the jack/spare tire area?

Here is what I'm talking about - in this picture there is something in a bag in the "left" foam space (that might be the cargo net or might be a different part and I just wanted to confirm b/c the hole is shaped like it was supposed to be for something if not a hitch.

Yeah that sure looks like the cargo net in there, but like I said, I believe it's for a hitch/ball.

Re: What comes with the jack/spare tire area?

I found out what is missing from the 2012 models is the plastic cover that goes over the jack to keep from scratching and cutting into the painted metal at the jack points. I rotate my own tires and felt it was a good thing to have so I ordered one from my local dealership for 10 bucks or so. Why they took this out is beyond me but the 2012 owners manual shows a picture of it but it doesn't mention it. It goes in the empty spot below where you show the plastic bag on the bottom right.

The reason they eliminated it was to save 25 cents on every WK2 produced. Bunch of meddling bean counters.

Most people would never notice it missing. But I did.

Re: What comes with the jack/spare tire area?

Yes something goes where that plastic bag is, that is where the front tow hook is located on export model 2012 JGC as the front recovery hooks were deleted on our models due to pedestrian safety rules here. When needed it screws into the front right hand chasis behind the plastic cover.

The tow hook however is not rated for recovery in the bush etc only for towing a short distance on the road or to pull the vehicle up onto a flatbed when broken down.

Nope. At least 2011's. Neither does the Limited.
