Re: What makes the new GC Trail Rated? isn't mine...

More good info here:

http://www.jeep.com/en/4x4/trail_rated/

This is from the Water Fording section:
Quote:
Hit that riverbed with confidence. Trail Rated® Jeep® 4x4s feature additional electrical and body sealing
They also mention higher intake location but I'm not sure that applies to the GC

Hmmm, you can get the Compass with the trail rated badge.

That badge is only a marketing gag.

Thats odd... I have the Hemi, QTII w/ 4-low and Tow IV package and mine didn't come with the badge; I am not "trail rated" . I do not have tow hooks or skid plates as I did not order the ORA1 or ORA2 package. I do have HDC... maybe thats a Trailer IV function?. I too agree that the badge is nothing more than a marketing scheme.

From the Brochure:
ORA1: Skid Plate Group, QTII with Selec-Terrain, HDC, tow hooks & full-size spare (avilable Laredo & Limited 4x4)

ORA2: Skid Plate Group, QDII with Selec-Terrain (if equipped with V8), QL Air Suspension, OWL Tires, tow hooks, 18" wheels on Overland (available on all 4x4 models)

Skid Plates are available from Mopar (see image). You can also buy the badges and tow hooks from Mopar Parts.

Hill Descent Control is standard with QTII. Going from QTI to QTII gets you the Select Terrain knob with the associated capabilities, a two speed transfer case, and HDC.

Ya, I noticed my botch later; I meant to edit my post.

It's odd that the ORA1 package specifically calls out QTII & HDC as features of it, when HDC is in-fact part of QTII anyway. Make sense? Guess Jeep thought that it sounds better for marketing.

Re: What makes the new GC Trail Rated? isn't mine...

If you weren't getting anything else along with the badge it would be a marketing scheme but ORA packs include front and rear tow hooks, skid plate group, additional electrical and body sealing, 18" wheels (and possibly more?) which are all geared for the trail. The trail rated badge makes complete sense to me.

Re: What makes the new GC Trail Rated? isn't mine...

I wouldnt mind if we can learn what extra sealing they are talking about and where? I wouldnt mind doing that for more protection when I have to cross water, but then again I dont think it matters that much.

In the future I will be buying the skid plates since i read that it wasnt that hard to put them yourself. I do have a couple of other mods I want to do first so once I am done with them, I will be getting the skid plates.

On the WK2 there is no additional sealing, it's all about the skid places, tow hooks and wheels/tires and the version of 4WD installed.

mjw930, Thanks.

Well then once I get the skid plates, I will be Trail rated I guess HAHAHA. (without the tires since I like my 20).

This makes a lot easier for me

The Badge is a marketing scheme, that was my point. As you stated (and many others including me) ORA packages come with Tow Hooks & Skid Plates (& the 18's if you have an Overland). I know that Jeeps Trail-Rated website says it includes sealing but I don't think it applies to the WK2s.

Exactly. If I installed the tow-hooks (which I voted for in the next group buy thread ) and the skid-plates my Limited WK2 would be no less Trail Rated then a Jeep with the ORA package. I'm just missing the badge.

Thats why I earlier suggested that "I am not Trail-Rated "

Again, if I am wrong and there is addtional sealing then the jokes on me as I missed the boat and should've ordered the package (I didn't because I didnt want OWL tires).
