Re: What would be leaking?

Defiantly sounds like a shock leaking, I unfortunately see a lot of 4th gen grand's rear shocks leaking, being a 2014 you should still be in your 3yr/36k mile basic factory warranty (pending you purchase date) and should be able to get it replaced free with no delectable

My warranty ended in May, even though the vehicle only has 19,500 miles on it. I do have the lifetime extended service agreement though.

cool then it's covered for $100...you would be wise to bring up any other stuff for this appt too so it all is covered by paying the $100 deductible once...

Other than my recurring problem of having the FCA periodically disable itself for five minute periods on trips, this vehicle has been trouble free until now.

Re: What would be leaking?

Those who voted for shock absorber win. Left rear shock was blown at 19900 miles. This vehicle has been off-road, but it hasn't been treated as harshly as any of my previous 4x4's, including my old 78 Bronco, which I beat to death and it went 75,000 before needing shocks.

Also, they think that the head unit may be causing the FCA problem, so they ordered a new one. HERE is saying that new maps for the GC are due out in a few weeks, so I probably won't miss my map update from last year (since I can't find the thumb drive) unless HERE drags out the release several months like they did last time.

Schmieg,

Great news. Oh, and I prefer mashed potatoes and baked beans with my chicken dinner!

The good news in addition is that they didn't charge me a penny for the repair and the recall service, even though I'm on the lifetime service agreement now. Maybe because I've been complaining about the FCA for three years now and nothing they have tried worked, but I did expect to get hit for the shock.

Yeah they shoulda got a deductible out of ya but that's it...recalls are always free, it's the TSB's that are not free if out of OEM warranties.

Congrats on getting the repair for free!

Regarding the rear suspension, for whatever reason, about the only thing that isn't covered is rear shocks.

Per MaxCare, the following is covered:

Probably because it's a normal wear and tear item, especially on a 4x4, but the shock should have lasted longer than 19900 miles.

For some reason Jeep can't figure out how to put a good rear shock on the 4th gen, I replace lots and lots and more often than not the jeep is still in basic warranty.
