My 2014 Overland has been in the garage for the last several months attached to a battery tender while I've been enjoying the top down fun in the MX5. When I was in the garage the other day, I noticed what appeared to be an oily stain just behind the left rear wheel. It appears to be colorless and does have an oily consistency. I am currently undergoing treatment for a back problem and I can't get down to crawl underneath the vehicle to see what's going on. The stain appears to be fairly large, maybe a foot wide and two feet long running from about the middle of the rear wheel back to the bumper and on the inside of where the tire sits on the floor. I plan to call on Monday to make an appointment to have this checked out, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what the problem might be.
Unfortunately for these tests, this is an oily stain, not an oily puddle. Whatever leaking has been done was over a period of several months. I can get oily residue on my fingers sufficient to determine that it is oily, but there isn't enough there to really perform either of these tests. The size of the stain is substantial, but it is pretty dry.
Defiantly sounds like a shock leaking, I unfortunately see a lot of 4th gen grand's rear shocks leaking, being a 2014 you should still be in your 3yr/36k mile basic factory warranty (pending you purchase date) and should be able to get it replaced free with no delectable
Those who voted for shock absorber win. Left rear shock was blown at 19900 miles. This vehicle has been off-road, but it hasn't been treated as harshly as any of my previous 4x4's, including my old 78 Bronco, which I beat to death and it went 75,000 before needing shocks.
Also, they think that the head unit may be causing the FCA problem, so they ordered a new one. HERE is saying that new maps for the GC are due out in a few weeks, so I probably won't miss my map update from last year (since I can't find the thumb drive) unless HERE drags out the release several months like they did last time.

The good news in addition is that they didn't charge me a penny for the repair and the recall service, even though I'm on the lifetime service agreement now. Maybe because I've been complaining about the FCA for three years now and nothing they have tried worked, but I did expect to get hit for the shock.
