What's this hose, and why is it hanging so low?

'11 Laredo X V6. As I was walking towards the Jeep today, I noticed this hose hanging way low. I have not noticed it previously. No MIL lights are on. Nothing is leaking from it. Is it the sunroof drain? A/C drain? It's on driver's side. Where does it belong? It shouldn't be that low. It never was prior. I crawled underneath, and couldn't really tell anything obvious. Thanks.

PS.. Sorry -- forgot to add pic. The hose runs between the half shaft and cat:

Whatever it is, tie it up. It's rubbing on your drive shaft.

Re: What's this hose, and why is it hanging so low?

Most likely a differential breather. Pull it back up and zip tie it to something on the firewall.

Thanks all. I did zip tie it up. It did look like it was rubbing on driveshaft. Put it too far to the other side, and it's touching the cat. I did have my torque converter replaced last summer. Maybe they didn't tie the hose back properly?

Re: What's this hose, and why is it hanging so low?

What diameter is the hose? If it's a diff breather, it should probably have a little plastic vent on the end of it to keep it from drawing in debris....at least the breathers on my old 2003 Ram did. Can you see where the other end goes?

Re: What's this hose, and why is it hanging so low?

Maybe its the sunroof drain hose? Although I think the front drains for the sunroof drain down the A pillars.

Re: What's this hose, and why is it hanging so low?

I couldn't tell where the other end went. It appeared to go up into the engine bay, but it's pretty tight up there. I probably could tell if I pulled it on the ramps -- out in the sun. I can barely fit under there -- with the nerf bars. For now, I may leave it zip-tied up until I change the oil in a few months.

It's not very big. The outside diameter is about the size of a finger...maybe 1/4" i.d., and 1/2" o.d.?

Re: What's this hose, and why is it hanging so low?

Updating my own thread... A few weekends ago, I had the Jeep on ramps to do an oil change. I found out where the hose went, and why it was hanging so low. It goes no-where! Seriously, it's open on the other end as well -- with a funky cap on it. It's clipped to the air intake breather hose. I was swapping intakes last summer, and must have forgotten to clip it back on. Anyone know it's use?

That is the breather vent for the front differential. (place up and out of the way of water. I have seen that done since the first XJ I owned.

The hard line it is clipped to is the PCV line (Just in case you were wondering about that too)
