Where NOT to apply rain x(windshield)

I'm a rain x user and I read in the manual that rain x can cause the auto wipers to not work as well. Where do I not want to apply it so I can reap the benifits of both?

Re: Where NOT to apply rain x(windshield)

So you applied over the entire windshield? No issues? Where are the sensors located?

Yes. Correct. I think the sensor is the red reflector at the base of the rearview mirror (not sure though).

Re: Where NOT to apply rain x(windshield)

The sensor is at the base of the rearview mirror.

I used to use Rain X but I actually stopped using it because I found that it smeared with the wipers when driving in the rain. I've found the same benefits of RainX can be had by claying and cleaning the windshield well with an abrasive cleaner like Bon Ami (just don't get any on the paint or the trim)...with no issues with streaking.

I hate rainx.
You cant see through the smears especially at night if your wipers are on.

Give me good 'ol blue windshield washer fluid anyday,

Re: Where NOT to apply rain x(windshield)

Thats exactly the issue I had with it. Try really cleaning the windshield well with the Bon Ami, water slides right off and no smearing.

I Agree, if you like smearing and glare, rainx is the way to go.

Re: Where NOT to apply rain x(windshield)

I've been an avid Rain X user for well over ten years with no ill effect. In fact, not only have I used it on my F250 King Ranch, two BMW M3s, Pantera GTS, and WK2 Summit, but I use it on my Polaris Ranger XP LE as well. I also use it on my shower glass door to help shed the water as well. I've never had any issues with my automatic windshield wipers. I've found that it does take the use of a clean microfiber cloth to apply and then a second clean and dry microfiber cloth to remove the haze and streaks. In fact, I put a fresh coat on both the front and rear windshields yesterday on the WK2 when I detailed it.

I've also used Bon Ami periodically to get a truly clean surface prior to cleaning and then finally applying the Rain X.

Wow a lotta hate for rain x... Never had an issue with it.(smearing?!? I get smearing without it)Hate when I don't have it... Someone old me waxing the windows worked too. Never tried it since I have rain x on hand.. So since I like and and will be using it. Just avoid the sensor at the base of the mirror then?
