Whistle from front drivers pillar?

First things first - love the new GC. Now on to business. Had a couple stumbles on delivery, mostly in fit and finish (pillar trim out of place, floorboard trim out of place), got most of that sorted out with some muscle, may have to have the pillar trim replaced, but no big. However, I have a whistle coming off the front pillar, starts anywhere between 40 and 60mph depending on how windy it is. No leaks that I can see yet (rained like hell yesterday), so I dont know if its normal and I just never paid attention to it on the loaner because of the stereo, or if I have a hole in a seal somewhere. Didn't see anything in the area, only place I have a wonky seal is on the moonroof - the seal on the rear is a little large so you can hear it thump when it goes down over the roof lip when I open it. Anyone else noticed this?

Re: Whistle from front drivers pillar?

Mine is dead quiet unless the window is not shut tight, then it will whistle even when parked with the heater blowing near full.

The loaner I was in while waiting for this one was dead quiet too. I'm wondering if I've got a hole somewhere or it's the moonroof not sealing quite right and I'm hearing air coming down the drain...not sure if it drains down the front pillar or the side pillar though.

Re: Whistle from front drivers pillar?

There was a TSB issued for a whistle type sound occuring when the AC is running. I think it was TSB 24-007-11

Re: Whistle from front drivers pillar?

I have a 2012 and definitely not running the AC, it's 40 degrees! Only comes when I go above 40 or so. I do know the sun roof may not be aligned with the roof and I wonder if thats what I'm hearing. Is there a way to calibrate it without taking it to the dealer? The front drivers side doesn't quote line up with the roof line and the seal on the rear drivers side sounds/feels like its too close to the lip of the roof.

Re: Whistle from front drivers pillar?

Is it from the top or bottom of the pillar. I had a wind whistle towards the bottom of my drivers side pillar that I thought was the window seal. After taping lots of different areas with elec tape I found it was coming from the left edge of the plastic cowling (just aft of the hood/bottom of windscreen under the wipers) met the junction of the lower pillar and top most part of the fender. For whatever reason that was making an annoying whistle. I eventually bonded the whole edge to the fender edge with black silicone and no more whistler.

What was key for me was taping up all the joints and seams in the area to narrow down where the whistle was coming from.

Re: Whistle from front drivers pillar?

Goes into the dealer Monday while I'm away for work. I'll let them deal with the sunroof, might try the tape trick though. It hasn't leaked in the rain, so not entirely sure its a hole somewhere. Hopefully if the seal is bad on the roof, they just replace the whole thing...i'd rather they not try to reseal it and hope for the best!

Re: Whistle from front drivers pillar?

Damn it...wife picked it up Wednesday. Sunroof is fixed...front pillar is still whistling Dixie on the highway. They replaced the front windshield cowling seal (something along those lines, dont have the writeup in front of me). Back to the dealer it goes...

Re: Whistle from front drivers pillar?

Is the alignment of the culprit door perfect ie. gaps at edges are all equal and body panel perfectly flush to the panel beside it? Might just need a small adjustment.

Looks right to me. I'll have a look at it when I leave today, it's entirely possible since I don't normally pay attention to the doors. Although now I stop and think about it, I do hear a little more than I thought I would from the door. Not something I normally pay attention to, so it could be normal.

Hopefully they finally found it. Tech went out for a test drive w the wife before it went in, got a call today. Door seal is good, narrowed it down to a 2 inch section of the drivers side windshield seal. We'll see if they get it this time!
