Whistle sound on deceleration.

Hello all. 10 week old 2014 Laredo 4x4 have an issue when driving at highway speed when I or the cruise control decelerate I hear a whistle sound. Almost like wind. But whistley and coming from the front of car/engine bay. As soon as I put my foot back on the accelerator the sound disappears instantly.

Has anyone had issues like this? Any ideas what to look at before asking the dealers.

Re: Whistle sound on deceleration.

One more thing to note. It only does it in 8th gear. Drop it into 7 or neutral and sound goes away.

Re: Whistle sound on deceleration.

Just an update to this issue. I have noticed it happens when in 8th Gear or overdrive and as soon as i put it into neutral or accelerate or flick in back into 7 using the paddles the noise goes away instantly.

You don't mention which of the 8 speeds you have [there are 2, one for the v8/diesel and one for the v6]. Still, it is new, and it should not be making that noise.

I would have guessed a cracked connector causing a whistle under high vacuum until you mentioned you can nuke it by changing gears. That sounds more like you want that transmission checked quickly.

Hey. It's a V6. Only does it very rarely in gear 8. Almost sounds like wind noise.

My V8 does it in every gear. I take my foot of the gas and it sounds like a whistle or a howling. Foot back on the gas and it goes away.

Don't think its power steering. I had my power steering replaced because it blew up. Put a brand new one in. The problem with the power steering was the shaft and pulley attached to the drive belt became worn and rubbed metal on metal causing mine to ultimately fail.

As for the sound in my truck currently, I think its trans/rear gearing related. Not 100% sure but thats what makes sense to me. Either way, won't know till the dealer has my truck...again.

Re: Whistle sound on deceleration.

Had the same thing on my 2012, 6 speed w/hemi. The mechanic told me it was gear noise. It eventually went away at about 38k miles.

That's interesting. I hope that's the case but to me, if it was gear noise it would be a constant, not an occasional noise. I'll have to see what my dealer has to say.

I thought the same thing. The mechanic explained that when you let off the gas the gear backlash takes the pressure off the gear face and the whine goes away. Anyway, the noise is gone and nothing was done to change it.
