Why I hate Jeep dealers

Less than two weeks ago I did oil change and other service in one of NJ Jeep dealerships. Yesterday I found that my washer liquid level is low since light been flashed on dash. I opened hood to add some and oh well .... plastic gap for washer liquid is open!!! It splashed for two weeks all over around my engine ... :(
That is why I would never-ever go to the dealer unless I need to do warranty repairs. Just in case I checked other things like oil gap and deep sticks, all in place thanks to god. That is f...g scary especially since they charged me extra $17 for world class check-up of my car!

I always check my vehicle after any service. From various dealers over the years, I have received my Jeep back with a significantly low oil level, a rag right on the exhaust manifold, missing screws holding the air filter on, a refilled windshield washer container with summer fluid in the winter [I live in the northern Rockies], tires over or under inflated, and a missing tire jack.

Now, that is a really really bad news dealer.:(

In summer 2010 I was waiting for the "advanced electronics" to be available to place an order. I had been visiting the dealership near work to get info and climb over the 2011 Grand Cherokees on the lot to see what is not visible on the internet.

Months later I stop by to pick up the Hemi badge I had ordered for the Grand Cherokee I had ordered (from a different dealer). And I see a beautiful Overland configured exactly as I had spec'd but without the advanced electronics.

Something caught my eye on the sticker ... MY NAME! The scummy dealership used my name to prioritize the building of a Grand Cherokee for their use and sale. In late 2010 the "customer orders" had priority over dealer orders and general builds.

When I confronted them about it they had no guilt, nor willingness to compensate me with a free service. Needless to say I have never done business with since.

That sucks, but you should consider yourself lucky that it was just washer fluid (basically water) instead of leaving the oil cap off. That happened to my buddy and he ended up with oil all over his engine compartment instead of in the engine where it belongs.

I would notify the service manager that this happened, so they can take the proper action in the future. It might have been an honest mistake, it does happen. I picked up mine one time and they had mud tracked all over inside. I called the service manager over to look at it, they cleaned it up and it has never happened again.

If it was splashing for two weeks you should have noticed something leaking from the Jeep at some point.

Is the OP serious.....

This is a joke thread right?

I did it long before but at some level of oil change and maybe brake pads change on very simple car that time. I do tires rotation and such small mechanical things now when time and weather permits.
But in this case I went to do some TSB's and instead of just doing them I asked for oil change.

Excause me, but Breitling65 has every right to be ticked off. It's what these people do. One thing, Can't they do it right. Any dealer can have these issues. I do my own service and have for 40+ years. I do check the dealers work when I have to have something done I don't or want to do it. Last time, over filled the transmission by a whole qt. I can only guess what a mess I would have had if I had not checked it when I got home and had to take it back to them. ( And this is a good dealer.) So for all you that think Breitling65 over reacted. If you ever have your Jeep or what ever you drive in for service and they leave the oil plug loose and the wife drives it home and it burns up..Please don't over react. Big or small issue, We should not have to check behind everyone..But we do.

Nothing happen. Just bring it to the dealers attention and pray that they never let it happen again and just let it go. The world would be a better place. :)

He can vent. I'll give him that.

If it's OK for this much drama while venting, you know, hating all Jeep dealers, expecting Lexus/Benz service for a Jeep, projecting disastrous mechanical errors that did not occur, water splashes damaging an engine bay, etc, all from the cap being loose on a wiper reservoir....

Then I have every right to recommend:

I believe you didn't get my point. In my invoice there is point cost me $17 and named World Class Check-up service and additional card with red green points marked as pass or failed. That is something they add by their own initiative and that is what caused even worse effect after what happened.
Not big deal, small issue, so what? Right, should we wait until fire under hood to call problem serious? Is this how you work at your work? I am asking because I am not.

I don't think you can lump all Jeep dealers into one experience. I had a Dodge while in Germany and when I had it serviced at the Chrysler Dealership there, service rivaled any MB or BMW dealer. I would never see that level of service stateside again. Domestic dealers don't have the same emphasis put on quality service as we would like. The individual dealers that do understand that service is part of repeat business generally have better service managers and techs avoiding cases the OP posted about. Knowing this I always do a walk around and look under the hood after any and all services. No one cares more about your vehicle than you do.

Just wondering if you called the Service Mgr. back to let him know about your bad experience & what he said or how they will handle this going forward?

In addition, for those of us in the area, do you care to tell us just who this 'World-Class' Jeep dealer is so that we may avoid them?

--> Moose, you made me laugh real good this morning...
--> Shortdustoff, excellent points there...

Actually, I only ask if checkup is a part of oil change, service person said yes while taking my car. I didn't asked for any extra checkups, especially "World Class" one. :)
I didn't call, I wrote in review what I think about all these services. I got review later from Chrysler via email. Not a secret, this is Sansone Jeep on rt1, NJ.

Not a fan of Sansone myself. I personally would have brought it up and not paid for the "extra" service. Would it piss me off, yeah but I wouldn't get hell bent on it.

I agree that I have little faith in dealers in general but every now and then, I get one that shines and renews my faith. I generally do all my maintenance just because I want to be sure it's done a certain way, but since we bought the 11 WK2, I have been taking it to the dealer to get the routine stuff. The other day I crawled under the jeep to check the fog lamp and noticed some sort of access hole on the bottom (probably to get to the drain plug) open. The door or cover is there but like stuck inside. Piss me off, a little bit but I have more pressing things to concern myself with.

Also, I kinda like using the rainex washer fluid, so I tell them not to fill it up, that I will take care of it.

BTW, I can't say I would recommend Freehold on Rt 9 either.

Edit: That Vagisil comment was funny. Kudo's to the poster. I see the OP point, but nonetheless the Vagisil is a funny comment.

That is my point, Sonsone or Freehold -> all the same cr.p. This is something that belongs to the any Jeep dealers/service culture. Unfortunately they don't understand that the will lose many people potentially would like to get Jeep but scared of these stories. I went there ONLY because of TSB's, I took my oil with me and all I asked is to change it.
I wouldn't repeat this, I have place where to change oil and fine with how my car is running now until lease ends.

I can understand what your ill feelings toward the dealership. I have had some bad experiences over the years and that is why I do as much work on my vehicles as I can. I had a problem the day I bought mine. Popped the hood and looked things ove and noticed the power sterering fluid was really low (Jeep had 12 miles on it). Asked them to check it out and fill it up. As I waited on the mechanic I started reading the cap and it says use fluid designed for electric power steering pumps and do not mix. The mechanic brought out a bottle that said Mopar Power Steering Fluid and before he started to pour it in I asked him if he was sure it would be alright since the 12 3.6 WK2's have electric pumps. He said it would be fine. Next day started having my doubts and started combing the web and found out that what he put in would cause harm to the pump. I called the dealership and complained and told them I would be there first thing the next morning. Got there first thing and the mechanic who put the fluid in got really defensive about it. He came back with some literature that said ou could use what he put in but of course he would never admit what he originally put in to raise the level to begin with. I didn't have much of a case to keep arguing since I had no proof of what he put in. I stopped at another jeep dealership and bought a pint of the stuff your supposed to use which meets MS-11655. I have been using a turkey baster to remove fluid out of the reservoir and replace with new every few days now. Hope that will keep any problems from arising but if the pump does burn up then hopefully it will be under warranty.

My dealership gave me a free oil change this past Saturday. I walked to the desk to pay and and the service manager said, "It's on me.".

PS: They really love my Jeep.
