Why no TOW/HAUL Button on WK2 with Trailer Tow Group?

I just noticed on my WK2 with 3.6L and "Trailer Tow Group" doesnt have a "Tow Haul" Button on my Jeep.

I actually just looked at a WK2 online on ebay and did notice this button on a 5.7L WK2.

I know for a fact my Tow Group was part of my WK its included on the window sticker. The tow package wasnt just thrown on by the dealer.

I know if I go to the dealer and ask, They will just tell me, "you dont need it"

Do you guys think they forgot to put one in or are they not needed in my packaged WK? 3.6L Quadra Lift

They did not forget to put one in. WK2 with V6 don't have this button. I have Laredo X V6 with towing package and I don't have it. I don't know why its not needed.

Re: Why no TOW/HAUL Button on WK2 with Trailer Tow Group?

It's not on the V-6 models. Why? Well, we generally aren't hauling loads that are as heavy, and quite honestly, if towing beyond the occasional light load is in your plans, the V-8 is a better choice.

Might having that make the V-6 a bit better at long distance hauling? Possibly. Are the long distance towing people buying the V-6? Probably not.

Re: Why no TOW/HAUL Button on WK2 with Trailer Tow Group?

Arent the transmissions for the different engines different as well? If thats the case its simply that the transmission for the v6 doesn't have a seperate mapping for towing...they probably just felt it wasn't nessesary. As far as I can tell having owned a few trucks with a tow/haul mode for the transmission all it does is hold onto gears slightly longer to maintain forward momentum better...which you could just do yourself with the manumatic feature.

Yes, transmissions are different for different engines.

Good call, tow/haul generally will keep the overdrive gear from engaging as well.

GlowingGhoul has much to be proud of
Re: Why no TOW/HAUL Button on WK2 with Trailer Tow Group?

The primary reason is because the V8 needs to have MDS (4 cyl) mode disabled while towing, and the V6 doesn't have MDS.

It also disables overdrive, though I'm sure that's not the reason for the button, it's just a convienience.

Re: Why no TOW/HAUL Button on WK2 with Trailer Tow Group?

From the Owners Manual:

Quote:
5.7L Engine
On vehicles equipped with the 5.7L engine, use of ERS (or TOW/HAUL mode) also enables an additional underdrive gear which is not normally used during through gear accelerations. This additional gear improves vehicle performance and cooling capability when towing a trailer on certain grades. ERS 1, 2, and 3 are underdrive gears; ERS 4 is direct drive. ERS 5 (Overdrive) is the same as the normal 4th gear. When in the DRIVE position in first through fourth gear, the first tap to the left (-) will display the ERS designation for the current gear (the transmission will not downshift). For example, if you are in DRIVE and are in third (direct) gear, when you tap the shift lever one time to the left (-), the display will show 4 (ERS 4 is direct gear). Another tap to the left (-) will shift the transmission down to ERS 3 (the added underdrive gear). When in the DRIVE position in fifth gear, the first tap to the left (-) will downshift the transmission and display 5 (ERS 5 is the same as normal fourth gear). Another tip to the left (-) will shift the transmission down to ERS 4 (direct gear).

WARNING!
Do not downshift for additional engine braking on a slippery surface. The drive wheels could lose their grip and the vehicle could skid.

Screen Display 1 2 3 4 5* D
Actual Gear(s) Allowed 1 1-2 1-3 1-4 1-5 1-5

* Applies to vehicles equipped with 5.7L engines only.

NOTE: To select the proper gear position for maximum deceleration (engine braking), move the shift lever to the left “D(-)” and hold it there. The transmission will shift to the range from which the vehicle can best be slowed down.
As you can see, it's a lot more than holding gears longer and not allowing 5th gear (2nd OD).
