Win Module Failure

FYI. After one week and 200 miles of driving my Overland had what I would call a catastrophic failure of the ignition system. There is a computer module called the "WIN Module" that failed. All of the ignition related electronics failed and even the media center would not work. Luckily it was in my garage at the time and not out somewhere. According to the service department at my dealership the software in the WIN module crashed (or went to sleep according to them). The Jeep had to be towed in to the dealership for repair. When they disconnected the battery and then reconnected it the WIN module rebooted and all was good, but to be safe they contacted Chrysler and was instructed to replace the win module. I am wondering if maybe there is a bug in the sotware for this module which caused it to crash? I guess I will never know. Anyway if any of you should be caught out somewhere and this happens you can of course call Chrysler roadside assistance or you might try just disconnecting the battery and letting it reboot and maybe get you home.

Car needs to be rebooted once in a while... too funny. Soon we will see BSOD on radio screen.

If these were running on Mac OS X there would not be a need for this forum!

Re: Win Module Failure

truthfully though, i would LOVE to see an OSX interface in a car's media center.
imagine like ipad, in your dash. phone, music, media, internet, gps, etc.
i WISH such a thing existed. i'd pay big for it.

Re: Win Module Failure

Probably just infant mortality of the equipment. Electronics tend to either fail rather quickly or it will run for years without a problem. It will work fine for a few days, then crap the bed. It happens.

But then jeeps would only come in pastel colors, only 1 in 10 gas stations would be compatible with it, and the fuel would cost double.
