Wind resistance or fish bite?

So I just a ~360 mile round trip in my 2014 JGC HEMI Summit yesterday, and I started noticing that while just driving at a steady speed I was just feel a "fish bite" sensation from the car. And it would come and go, no rhyme or reason. I wouldn't say it was super windy yesterday in the part of Virginia I was driving in, but it could easily have been the wind pushing the car back as I was driving. Its very noticeable, and it feels like the car loses power for a brief moment and gets that power back. I also dislike the feeling the car gets as when I let off the gas to coast down a hill or something and the trans doesn't "free wheel", it almost makes me quesy, lol.

I wanna say I have been noticing this issue for a while now, but I don't have a lot of seat time in this vehicle. I bought it brand new back in April '14 and it only has ~5600 miles on it now.

Any ideas or similiar experiences? TIA!

Re: Wind resistance or fish bite?

Could you be noticing 4 cylinders starting and stopping? I believe that's the MDS system.

Hmmm.....that's something I never thought about, if it is the MDS transition, then I would have to say thats a pretty rough one. In my 07 Tahoe it will show the change from 4 to 8 vice versa in the driver info center. I wish the JGC did the same, then I could say for sure or not if it was the MDS system. I'll keep a closer eye to notice if it does this during the start of an incline in the road or decline. Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't even think of that!

Man, thats another one I didn't think, mostly b/c I'm not totally familiar with all the do-dads in the car, lol. I was messing around with settings earlier and I saw that it was checked in the settings menu. I'll uncheck it and report back. Thanks for the suggestion!

Did you mention this in reference to the fish bite comment or my coasting downhill comment?

UPDATE: Sorry I mixed up hill decent and hill start assist. lol

Re: Wind resistance or fish bite?

I have also experienced difficulty with "free coasting" and it feels that the trans is downshifting. However, I have the 3.6L V6 not the hemi so I also have a different trans. I am quite sure that mine is trans related b/c as soon as I tap the +paddle shifter, I can "free coast" very well. Try manually upshifting with the +paddle and see if that allows you to coast. I will also try to take off the hill start assist feature and see if that helps. Love this forum

I often do this. I hate the engine braking that seems to occur on hills, especially when it causes me to actually have to give it gas to go downhill.

Do you just hit the + paddle while in normal mode or do I need to be in sport mode?

I thought I just read that hill decent mode will only activate in 4x4 LOW? I might be wrong...

UPDATE: I found it....needs to be 4WD LOW, less than 5mph, no parking brake, and driver door closed

Just flick the + Paddle. That puts it into manual mode. Bump the + paddle again to upshift if it feels like the vehicle is dragging downhill.

I was thinking that, too, but I wasn't sure if that was a feature that engaged at other times in other trim lines.

In my package, it definitely only words in Rock mode, with low activated.

Just don't forget to press and hold the + paddle to go back to auto if you don't want to keep shifting manually. Otherwise, the vehicle is going to be winding way out on each gear without shifting because it expects you to do it.

You'll be headed out from a traffic light and wondering why you're still in first at 6K RPMs when it hits you that you're in paddle shift mode.
