Re: Window streaks on my new Jeep

Thanks for sharing this. Makes perfect sense but never thought about using steel wool.

Get a clay bar and clean the wind shield that should help.

Re: Window streaks on my new Jeep

I use Bon Ami cleanser. There are two formula's for Bon Ami: new formula and original "1886" formula. You have to use the original formula - it uses feldspar as the abrasive which is softer than glass, and, therefore, glass safe. The newer stuff is just like using Ajax and should be considered verboten.

You just mix a bit of the Bon Ami with a some water and make a paste. Then just rub it on the windshield. Don't need to apply a lot of pressure; let the Bon Ami do the work.

I swear there's something special about the WK2's glass that makes stuff bind to the glass or something. Every few months some new streaks will show up. They only appear when raining and the wiper goes over them. They can never be cleaned off with a regular liquid cleaner - ammonia based, alcohol based, acetone, etc. - nothing works. I've never had any vehicle with glass problems like this before. Luckily, the Bon Ami takes it right off.

Re: Window streaks on my new Jeep

I might try that Bon ami cleaner because that steel wool didn't take them all the way off. But first I am going to the dealer as I have only had the jeep one week and see what they say.

Sly1types:

The "Windshield streaks" thread might be an interesting read for you (I found the hand print part of post #20 especially strange). I also have the same streaking that you do on my GC. It really drove me nuts at first but now I hardly even notice it, I guess too many other things have gone wrong with the jeep to worry about window streaking

Re: Window streaks on my new Jeep

I know it might sound crazy, but is it possible that some of what you are trying to wipe off the outside, is actually on the inside?

Re: Window streaks on my new Jeep

wow you have had a lot of problems...

I couldn't get the streaks off so I went to the dealer and they ordered a new windshield they think it might be de-lamination.
