Windshield Washer Fluid Leaking

Every time I have my Jeep back for a recall or warranty work, they always do a 19 point inspection which includes topping off the windshield washer fluid reservoir. And every time I get home, the next morning there is always blue fluid on the floor, same color as whats in the reservoir. It gets down to about 8" from the top and then it doesn't leak again. I know the reservoir holds about a gallon, so losing a pint or so is no big deal. Just seems strange. And yes, next time I'll tell them not to fill the reservoir up.

Anyone else have the same thing happen?

Re: Windshield Washer Fluid Leaking

Nope. I check my level frequently and refill even if down 1 inch, so mine maintains to the rim.

Re: Windshield Washer Fluid Leaking

I keep mine full and no leaks. Your reservoir must have a crack in it.

Re: Windshield Washer Fluid Leaking

Was wondering what your outcome was for the leak. My reservoir has started leaking the same. Losing some then it stops.

Re: Windshield Washer Fluid Leaking

Depending on year of the jeep, replacement of the bottle is trivially simple to a bit more of a PITA on the WK2 where it is located to the right of the radiator.

It shouldn't leak at all unless you leave the top unlatched and drive on rough roads. The fluid is cheap at Tarjay, Walmart, etc. so you could top off yourself.

I would think that if it leaks that fast, you could see staining along the bottle where you likely have a hairline crack. It COULD be a hose but I'd expect you to see other issues if it were a hose, as it would need to be located so it could siphon in order to lose fluid that way.

If you get nowhere, try a bit of radiator leak detection dye and a black light. But once you have evidence it is leaking, just replace the thing.

Mine is leaking at the seal from the washer motor pump. Supposedly dealer changed the reservoir bottle but I know for a fact it wasn't done. I know because first it leaked afterwards again and the factory markings that were on the original reservoir bottle were also on the new reservoir bottle. Also the allegedly new reservoir bottle still had all the dust on it that a new bottle never would have. So that tells me it was never changed. Though they billed Chrysler for the repair. So I harpooned the dealer on Yelp. Of course dealer owners reply was to bring it back in.

What I did do was pull back the fender liner and rotated the washer pump just a wee bit and for over 5 months now it hasn't leaked. Now having said that, it will no doubt leak the next time I use the vehicle.
