Winter weather and the stuck fuel door

Has anyone come up with a good solution to keep the fuel door from freezing shut in inclement weather? It's only happened a couple times in over a year, but it is a pain and probably not healthy for the paint on there to beat and pry at it from all sides to pop it loose when it does happen...

Lock de-icer works like a charm. After wash, a few sprays or squirts does the trick..lol ( sorry mind went to the gutter right away)

Re: Winter weather and the stuck fuel door

Haven't tried it on the fuel door yet, but my usual trick for door gaskets is a bit of silicone grease..

Freezing shut?
Curious as to how?

I've lived in either Wisconsin or Minnesota most of my life and the only time I've had problems with the fuel door being frozen shut is when the entire vehicle is coated in ice and then I have more problems than just a frozen fuel door.

I do try to coat all my door seals with silicone just before winter to help prevent icing/sticking, but the fuel door doesn't have a rubber seal.

Not sure, probably a thaw/freeze cycle gets some water in the mechanism which refreezes. I hit the button to pop the door on Sunday morning and it didn't open. I had to work my fingers to pry around the edges as much as possible, then push the button again to open it.

Re: Winter weather and the stuck fuel door

when it has happened to me, it was water turned to ice on the perimeter gasket.
