wipers wipe when cornering

My '14 Overland w/tech has the "auto" wipers feature. Occasionally it will wipe when cornering from a stop light. Any one see this before? Any ideas what is going on here?

Thanks,

-john

LOL... nope. You said occasionally. Are you sure it's not merely a coincidence?

Re: wipers wipe when cornering

Never noticed this but I now keep the auto wipers in off position. Sometime dirt/dust falls off a truck and activates them and maybe wind too (but maybe only if the wind has dust in it).

It has happened enough I'm pretty sure it is not a coincidence.

LOL... I left mine in the auto position and never had an issue with them coming on until one day I was wiping some bug splat off the windshield with the vehicle running.

The instant the rag swiped across the sensor area I got rapped on the knuckles by the wipers. Scared the crap out of me.

I assume you're leaving them in rain sense mode and that it's doing this when it's not raining?

Then the only other guess I could make is that maybe the traffic light is tripping the sensor.

correct.

Interesting thought. I kinda was wondering about a certain pattern of shadows passing over the sensor.

Too funny. I never thought of that.

Re: wipers wipe when cornering

i cant believe these arent flawless now.. I had a 2004 Acura MDX with this feature and they never even once fired when it wasnt raining. How is it that 10 years later this type of feature has issues? lol

I am still glad I got a low end Limited and nothing with more features... less things that can go wrong. 2 more years and bye bye Jeep.

Re: wipers wipe when cornering

Like my 2014, I had rain sense wipers on my 2002 when the option first appeared on the GC. Never had a problem with those either. Absolutely love them.

For a sensor that can detect rain on the windshield I wouldn't be surprised that there are other situations/conditions that could trigger the wipers.

I wouldn't necessarily call that a flaw, just the way the technology works.

Re: wipers wipe when cornering

When I was in high school [yeah, that long ago] I worked for a guy who had a Studebaker, Lark. Whenever it rained the wipers came on. It was never listed as a feature.

But, it didn't matter if the car was running, or even if the key was in the car. The only way to stop them was to pull the battery cable.

The car was old when it was given to him, and he got rid of it before anyone was able to turn the wipers off in the rain.
