WK2 Auto Brights and Wipers Problems

2012 JGC Overland auto wipers and auto bright lights not working.
Not sure if the windshield might have been replaced. What do I look for to know if it has the correct windshield for auto wipers? what does the rain sensor look like and is it attached to the rearview mirror? The auto bright headlights do dim when you slow down , but not when approaching headlights. It looks like someone painted a black mask on the windsheild to block the headlight sensor. Anyone have any clues as to what's going on here?
Thanks!

Re: WK2 Auto Brights and Wipers Problems

The sensors are in the rear view mirror assembly. The black mask surround is correct for the OEM windshield and does not block the sensors.

Check your UConnect settings to make sure those features are enabled.

Re: WK2 Auto Brights and Wipers Problems

They do say that products like RainX can interfere with auto wipers.

Once auto wipers are enabled in uConnect, you do need to leave the controls on the stalk in an on position. The speed control setting become sensitivity settings.

Re: WK2 Auto Brights and Wipers Problems

And to add what bill de said above, the headlights need to be in AUTO mode for the auto high beams to work. Sounds like you might already know this and do that, but we just wanna be sure to cover the basics first.
For what's it's worth the auto high beams have never worked correctly in my newly purchased 2015 Overland HA. I had the dealership address this when it was in for other work and they give it back to me saying it was user error...those assholes. I have had like 5 Grand Cherokees with that feature and they think I don't know how to use it correctly?!? Mine has about a 20% chance of the high beams going off for an approaching car. I can't even use the feature.

Re: WK2 Auto Brights and Wipers Problems

Thanks for the replies guys. I have attached some pictures so that you can see the black mask that has been painted on the windshield, the sensors and windshield that I'm talking about.

Is this the correct windshield for rain sensing wipers (it may have been replaced), and how could I tell for sure?

The round sensor on the mirror bracket- is that the rain sensor or the headlight sensor? Is the little white square panel in the back of the rearview mirror the headlight sensor? or what? Is there something missing on the mirror bracket? You can see some unused holes at the top of the bracket above the mirror surface.

I'm assuming that the black that was painted on the windshield was to block the headlight sensor?? Any ideas? I have read the manual on how the auto bright headlights are supposed to work. They do dim when I slow down, but not with approaching headlights. I have read how to operate the rain sensing wipers and they don't work at all. Enlarge the pictures so that the details can be seen clearly.
Thanks again!

Re: WK2 Auto Brights and Wipers Problems

Wow you are right, that windshield is not original. So clearly I think you have the problem solved. They likely used the basic windshield from a Laredo or something without all the sensors. Unreal how stupid some people are. The OEM windshield says Mopar on it as well as some numbers.

Yeah, the picture sure helps. For as wavy as that black mask looks, it looks like it was applied in someone's back yard.
