Re: WK2 heater blowing cold on driver's side

I did add a walk through of the gear replacement for the passenger side blend door gear (the $2 part) in the "How to" section if it will help anyone.

Thanks for posting that very useful how-to, Buckeye! I hope I never need it but it's great to know it's there if I ever do.

Re: WK2 heater blowing cold on driver's side

So is there a do-it-yourself answer for the Driver's side? I just experienced failure on the driver side (ice cold) while Passenger is hot (rear is cold also).

Thanks!

Re: WK2 heater blowing cold on driver's side

I broke down and brought it to the dealer to diagnose (tough living in Massachusetts right now with partial heat). Turns out it was a broken gear and actuator. After an hour to figure it out and then another 2 hours to fix after parts came in I am happy to report I have heat again on the drivers side. I was dreading the blend door had broken and they'd have to take apart the dash (big $$$). I got out for a reasonable expense.

Re: WK2 heater blowing cold on driver's side

I had the dealer take care of it for me, so I am not sure. Being a quick fix it can't be too complicated. Too cold here now for me to poke my head around (need a heated garage this year).

You are welcome...The cuts on my wrist were like paper cuts on steroids The advice about the tape in the how to should not be ignored

Re: WK2 heater blowing cold on driver's side

I am having the same issue with my Jeep. No heat on the drivers side. Is there any additional information available about the drivers side blend door actuator and its location ?
I had it diagnosed at the dealership. They want $1200.00 to remove the dash and replace a "plastic door" in the housing.
They also suggested that I have the A/C Evaporator Core replaced while they are in there because "they are known to go bad"
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Is it the blend door or just the actuator? I was fearing it was the blend door but in my case it was a bad actuator. From my understanding the actuator is located outside of the unit but I haven't looked to see where. Given it was only a 2 hour fix, it can't be too complicated. I had the issue originally looked at by my local mechanic and he concurred if it is the blend door then it is a big job to have to take the dash apart to get to the mixing unit which contains the blend door. The dealer that fixed mine said they will replace the entire mixing unit and not just the door. The A/C evaporator core sounds a little hokey to me, i'd do more research there. Good luck.
