Well the problem is gone for now and we hope this fix it. Will report back at the usual 700-1000 miles driven to see if the problem has come back.
I guess the part is no longer in national back order.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

I had a similar same issue on the JGC, Went into the dealer and it was a loose bolt on the rear A arm...

Don't know if it's the same for you, but from what I can hear on the sound clips, it does sound the same... Out of interest, while braking, swerving it was at it's loudest...

As I say, just a comment and adding my 2cw.

Just had my back wheel off and checked the shock-absorber. The part number is 68039560AA which you have labelled "Not in parts system". Sure enough, I couldn't find it in the usual Mopar parts suppliers' cattle dogs. Weird? So how is one supposed to get replacements? Not that I need one... yet. Although I was thinking of getting bilsteins at some stage.

Ok, Driven already about 750 miles and the knocking on the back shock mounts has come back.
Crap, this need to get fix I am tired of having to call service and take my car every month to the service area.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

My new shocks (old part number) have 1500 miles on them and, so far - so good - the noise has not returned. However on mine, they replaced the end of travel and sway bar bushings at the same time.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Guys,

Does this noise generally become apparent very quickly, or does it develop over time? Mine is at 7000kms now and there is no undue noise from the rear suspension, and it does have the SLS setup.

My problem comes back after 700-1000 miles from the date of repair.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

My noise issues started at about 5000 miles and got worse. The shocks were back-ordered for quite a while and they were replaced about 2000 miles ago now. The noise has not returned yet, but it could take a while to show up again. If it does, I will have the shocks replaced again and insist on the new design/part number. But so far, so good.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Gents, my GC is now 12 months old with 50K on the clock. Developed a similar noise at about 48K.

Didnt bother with the jeep dealer, took it to my friendly local mechanic wizard who services it for me (at half the price of the Sydney dealers by the way).

Turned out to be loose bolts on the swaybar link rods.

worth checking out, it certainly sounded like what is being discussed through this thread

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Hello Fellow WK2 Owners,
I have had concerns about my 2012 spec GC Limited (Coil suspension) straight line stability on broken surfaces from brand new. The bumping, shockie rattle noise has also been present from day one and I can't help but think they are conjointed somehow.
Been to the local Chrysler dealer about it before 1st service was due and they looked at it and said it was fine, where less than helpful. I then started corrospondance with Jeep Customer Service Australian Head Office over 4 emails and 7 months ago to no avail.
I had an original theory that the factory fitted low profile 50 series tyres combined with the stiff coil spring rate was the cause of the problem. However many other manufacturers have rigid suspension vehicles riding on low profile tyres and they handle in silence with poise and manners in rough roads situations.
I see that other owners have been talking about self levelling shoclies being the noise issue, My shockies are standard non leveling (I think the headlight are self levelling instead) but I still have annoying bump anf thump sound transmission through the back floor of the vehicle.
If you drive the vehicle on the freeway it is not a problem, but hit a pothole or tackle some corrigated dirt road and you need to hang on as the tail end wants to jump out from under you at reasonable (not rediculous) speeds.
I have had the vehicle almost a year now and have 23,000klms on the dial so I have the following thoughts.
1/ If you run lower air pressure in the tires the ride quality improves dramatically, (but the low pressure warning signal in the dash panel drives you mad).
Q, So perhaps going back to 18 inch rims and putting 60 series tyres will help things improve?
2/ The noisy rear end could be faulty shockies or non forgiving rubber bushing and spacers in the suspension design. I also think the very thin low quality noise suspression (sound deadening) materials are a contributinfg factor.
Q. Would replacement high quality shockies help both the noise and ride control problems?
3/ The vehicle will react in an erratic manner to uneven surface interruptions in the road surface at highway speeds (100klm/hr), from both the front and rear end, perhaps the whole suspension geometry needs reviewing.
If anyone has experienced any of these suspension issues and/or had a breakthrough with any of these issues, I would be very happy to hear from you.
