Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

hi guys, my dealer rang and told me that these new shocks have a different order number, so he is assuming that they are an improved shock. He has ordered some for my jeep, so will let you all know if any improvement when they are fitted. Gazza

Gazza,

What does your dealer mean with 'ordering number' there is only the parts number not a second 'ordering number'. And yes they have changes from ...AA, over AB, AC and some if us have already AD. I agree with Nopro, should we go back to the ...AC shocks? Are the AD wrong? Milous, help!

I just had this TSB applied this morning, they put on the AD's not the AC's as listed in the TSB.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Sounds like I should be glad that the trailer tow group on mine did not include the self levelling shocks. Anyone have this issue with the standard shocks ?

Agreed. It's been more annoying than beneficial for me. I don't tow heavy equipment so I would have been more than happy with a less expensive better functioning shock absorber. Hopefully this AD version of the shock will do the trick. Time will tell.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Yeah right!!!!!!!!
I have the AD version for over 5 months now and the noise came in at 700 miles again.
Is all smoke and mirrors. is all bulls----.
I called yesterday to let them know there is a TSB to change the shocks and I have an appointment on Monday, but I have the AD shocks now for a while and the noise came in at the standard 700 miles.
I am going to ask if they can put the regular shocks instead of the self leveling and then ask for a credit in my loan.....Maybe maybe I can show the copy of my request to put my car in the lemon la list and the BBB complaint and maybe they give me a 2014 GC........or maybe I can get new shock and go directly to the Japanese dealer and get my self japanese car or maybe an M3 four doors
Let see how that goes.....

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Anyone know why there are no aftermarket shocks available for the 2011 and up WK2's?

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

My GC is now in the service area again for the 6th time and in hope this TSB that was just release will be able to take care of my problem once in for all.
I don't have high hopes but at least I got the time to drop in at the service area and get them to work again in it.
Will be back with further details soon.

I press my thumbs, too. My clunking is coming back also, still faint but I is there. It was suggested in an other thread to use the shock mounts from the regular suspension. Don't know how far that went.

Question would be what is the difference between AC and AD, just the supplier or is AD just a new supplier from AB and AC is actually the improved version? Would be great if JEEP could explain what the difference is and why the TSB came back to AC.

If you go back to the regular shocks, don't forget to change the springs as well. For the SLS they belong together.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

That will be mystery #1. If the AC in the TSB is an Improve version.
Mystery # 2 is it the problem will be solved by changing back to the AC from AD will solve the problem.
With the AD my problem sound was even more load than with AC.
I fell they are just giving us the run around until we get tired and forget about this problem. But my specialty is keeping those sucker in their toes and I wont get tired, If I have to go there until warranty is up I will be doing this every two months if I have too.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Hi All with the same problem:
Just got a word from the Dealer Service center and they told me I will have to wait until a new version already out with part # ending in AF becomes available at some point.
They are not going to change my shocks this time around since I have already the latest version (AD) previous to the new one.
Hopefully they call me very, very soon.

Ok, my noise is definitely back with about 2000 miles and 85 degrees outside temperature.

I learned that the temperature plays a significant role in the noise, so I guess we will see an increase in issues, I guess. Haven't spoken with my service manager yet, but will go for a replacement for sure. At that point I will also ask or the difference in AC and AD. Would be great if somebody could throw some light on this (Milous, please).

Currently, I don't see Jeep fixing this in the long term so I am back on field one trying to find a solution by myself.

Two questions;
1) my GC with tow package and 18" wheels sits very high in the back (4.5" rear vs. 3" front, from tire to fender). Do you all have the same distances? Reason asking is, that for the SLS you need softer springs as the shocks act partly as such. So, if you put SLS and 'normal' springs together that would lift the vehicle, bring the shocks to their inner stops potentially causing a rattle. How can I find out if I have the right springs?
2) in an other thread was a discussion on the different shock mounts. Idea was to use the standard shock mounts (which have some rubber and a baseplate) to reduce the movement of the shock in the mount which might cause the rattle. I would go further and put a rubber mate between shock mount and fender to dampen the noise. Greatly appreciate feedback on that.
