Try this,

looks the same as what I have in my MY14 Limited. I too have the noise, planning to buy a pair of these.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

I have just done a search on the Monroe website & it only gives options for the petrol model of the JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, so are you sure that these shockers are suitable for the diesel model? Please let us know how you get on!

cheers gazza

Hi,

I did see that, best bet is to call a Monroe dealer here locally to see what they have in the way for a diesel. I have got mine booked at the service centre on the 7th so will wait to see what they have to say before i go ahead and order them.

Meanwhile check this guy out.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

thanks. Are you out of warranty yet? Has jeep given up on you?, my jeep agent has, so I am about to go to the automotive ombudsman.

only thing holding me back is that my dealer has told me that jeep has asked for a list of vin numbers of all known jeeps with our problem, so maybe something is about to happen!

Mate,

We need a class action against Jeep. This is BS that they have given up on you. My old shit box car suspension does not clunk or rattle over bumps. We pay a fair bit of money for JGC here in Aussie. If you still have warranty on the car, Jeep cannot get out of it.

I only bought the car last October, it was really quiet in the first 3 months. Before that I had the MY13 JGC. That had a definite clunk in the rear, when I quizzed the salesman, he apparently could not hear anything.

Because I was upgrading to the MY14 I did not bother to have the other one looked at. I went on the premise that the MY14 will surely have the issue resolved. Guess I was wrong.

On the MY14 the noise started increasing gradually. Now even the wife can hear it. So this will be my first visit to the dealers for the problem. The rattle/clunk, I for the life of me cannot figure out whether it is coming from the rear or the front. But it definitely feels like something is loose.

Sometimes I wonder if we are all barking up the wrong tree. I am really keen on trying the Monroes. So, I am wondering because Monroe USA showed that it is compatible with a JGC 2012 V8 petrol as well. I am going to order these as soon as Jeep have/have'nt an answer for me. I am not sure whether it will downgrade the towing capability.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

our warranty runs out in nov/14 and below is the latest reply from our dealer. We have had our shockers replaced 4 times already & the problem is back again after about 3000kms. It is a rear rumble over any uneaven surface. I drove a later model jeep without the problem after 30,000k's so I suspect that jeep has corrected the problem in later models -

Good afternoon Mr & Mrs Taylor,

This is the correspondence from Chrysler in regards to the Knock from the shockers in your Grand Cherokee.

“Some clunk or chuckle noise is a normal condition over bumps and potholes. There is no safety or durability concern, but in an effort at continuous improvement of our customers’ experience with our vehicle, objectionable noise from shocks is under investigation for future product or service enhancement.”

If you have any further question at all feel free to call me on 54423111 or email me,

King Regards,

John Dean

Another shock option is Dobinson in Queensland but you will have to buy the standard upper shock mounts from the USA as the Load Levelling shock use a different mount.

Yeah that is typical PR BS letter from Jeep.

Have you seen the post below by Baxter? Mate I reckon give these a shot. Sorry, I did not ask you if you have got the load leveling suspension, or Quadra lift. I have Quadra lift in mine. But I will call Dobinsons anyway to see what they recommend.

Here is a link anyway I looked up Dobinsons website.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Hi,

Just spoke to the sales guy at Dobinsons in Rocky. He said the shocks that are showing on the website are based on the OEM and unfortunately they will rattle and clunk as well. Told menot ot buy them. They are working on a fix for this and a replacement will be available.

He told me it is the shocks that rattle by design. The tech guy said if there is someone available locally in Rocky they would like to try a new product out that they are developing. They want to put these new shocks on the Jeep and test them rigorously before they put it on sale.

Dobinsons are aware that this is causing Jeep owners a lot of headache and they want to get a porduct out there soon.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

As I have posted before - I have been through three sets of rear shocks and the dealer refuses to fit a fourth set until Jeep come up with an answer. I have written to the CEO of Fiat Chrysler in Melbourne and have a complaint logged with the customer relations. The latest response from Jeep is that they are seeking a solution from the USA. I am coming up to 10K service and the noise is driving me mad. It sounds like balls being dropped in to a plastic bucket and it is continuous regardless of road surface. Dealer has driven car with shockers removed and the noise disappears. Has anyone had a satisfactory aftermarket solution because this is where I will head if Jeep don't deliver. Oh and if Jeep don't deliver the WK2 will be my first and last….

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Hi Anarawa9

My jeep has load levelling suspension, I did not know that quadra lift suspension has a similar problem. I checked out dobinsons prings link, but their site indicated that towing capacity with their products dropped back to 2500kg - too low for us.

The "walkaround on Edmunds" link was interesting but seemed to only concentrate on the front suspension.

As mentioned earlier, I test drove a 2012 JGC with 30000km & a lot of towing. Still has orig rear shockers but virtually no noise. Now suspect jeep has a fix for our problem, but not fixing older jeeps - maybe fixed a mismatch between rear springs & shockers
