Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

My dealer here in Aus, claims Jeep are working on the problem.....redesigning the upper shock mounting !! Changovers will be effected by our dealers, BUT...he could not say WHEN. Still, jeep/chrysler now recognise we have a problem....progress.

I was hopeful about the rear differential mounts being the cause as well.

Oh I long for the days of having a lift and a snap on toool box full of Craftsman tools!!! GRRRRR apartment living! lol

Anyway I think on my replacement jeep ( ) more on that another time, I will go for a limited 5.7 pretty much loaded all the way with OR1 ( no quadralift which comes with OR2 on the Limited and no NO load leveling shocks. I can put them after I suuppose If I need them. I dont do any towing anyway but was hoping to get my Bike to the track a few times.. that hasnt worked out yet either lol.
Fully understand your point. I am also thinking of getting rid of the SLSs, but Eibach doesn't make shocks jet. So I have to wait

I will put my webcam under the car to see if I can record it.

Good to here the news from Barry smith that they are redesigning the upper shock mounts. Similar what they did to the standard shocks as they were rattling as well (TSBs 17-002-10a and 17-001-11 and 17-002-11). My only concern is, that the noise doesn't come from the upper area of the wheel wells but definitly from under the car.

Would you think that upper shock mounts could cause noise coming from under the car?

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

My 2012 Limited has the clunking noise as well. I first noticed it at about 1000 miles but have not taken it to the dealer yet as I would like to know there is a solution to the problem before taking it in. Should I at least notify them so they know there is an issue?

I would take it in. There is suppose to be a database of your issues at the dealer and when a resolution arises they notify you of the fix.

By the way the rear clunk on take off is not suppose to be harmful to anything......

Ok, first videos are recorded, be careful they are noise. The clunk was always there, meaning depending on the road surface it was permanently clunking. However, I can't see any atypical moves of the suspension.

They are done from behind, left rear suspension. I was able to move the cam a little bit around during driving to focus on specific points.

Surprisingly, everything looks good. Even my suspect #1, the cradle mount, doesn't touch the body. So that is eliminated as well.
I will do a front perspective soon.

Sitting in the back of the car, the noise comes from under the car for sure maybe in front of the axle. Also could feel the thump while accelerating.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

I took my GC on Monday and still today I have not gotten it back. They are now saying they fix the problem and that they are waiting on a steering part to fix a TSB with the steering shaft, a small knock I felt which is describe in one of the TSB's, although my car is 2012 and they did not believe me it was happening to my car they finally agree to order the part to make the fix.
In regard the clunking on the back area they say they fixed it, but they said that the last time, when they change both shocks and it was still there when I left the service area.
No info on the repair on the back so far they have not given me detail, but once I get it back I will do a test drive before I receive it from the service area to make sure it was fix and I get the details of the repair.
I told them monday, I wont take my car until it is all fixed. They know I wont take it, because, I let them know I am the brother of the Executive manager of the local BBB and I told they I will process the complaint in a heart beat. They dont want me going public or the government chasing them for this matter.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

I am still working on this; somebody else had a similiar noise, took the car to the dealer and they replaced the rear swaybar and its bushings. Noise is gone.

I am still trying to figure a good position to video the rear suspension and the rear driveline. We will see.
I also was very successful in reproducing the noise Put a marble in the plastic boxis at the sparewell. Sounds pretty similar.

There are apperently so many lanes to take Anyway, will take a break this week as I go to Athens for a business trip. That will give me some time to think.

I found a pretty good description of Nivomats;

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Try WD-40'ing the heck out of the rear swaybar and bushings and see if it makes a difference.

That will be great to loosen all parts and start having worse problems than what we have.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Ok, Got the intermediate shaft replace to take care of the knock felt on the steering wheel.
Also two shocks on the back replace again and this time the rumbling sound is gone, let see how much time it last like this.
Reads like this:
02151504 shock absorber, rear-- replace rear both sides(c) 8799 WC
2 68069680AB absorber-Suspension
FC: 11
Part# 68069680AB
Claim type: W

19208102 Shaft, steering column intermediate--
Replace Assembly-tilt column (b)
8799 WC
1 5057539AD Shaft-Sterring Column Intermediate.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

No, it would not loosen up anything. All it would do is verify that the bushings are a source of the problem. WD-40 is a short-term penetrating lubricant, and evaporates quickly. Water degrades it.

Personally, I do not believe the rear load leveling shocks are the source of the problem. I and many others had notices the noise is less on rainy days (which would make the bushing wet). I believe your noise will be back as soon as the new shocks "wear in", just like they did the 1st time you had them replaced.

My GC was fine for the 1st 5000 miles, and the noise started getting more noticeable the last 1500 miles (I am at 8500 miles now).

I also want to find the root-cause of this issue, and am tired of hearing dealers say it is normal - because it did not do it for the 1st 5000 miles, so it is NOT normal.

I am going to attempt the "WD-40" test on my GC tonight and will report back in a day or so.
