Fantastic to see some intensive research on this crazy problem....Thanks Suther. It will be so good to get this finally sorted. Mine has had the problem from day one...now 4 months old ( Laredo SLS)

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

I have put on by now 700 miles and the sound has not comeback again. IT feels so good when things are quiet and fixed the right way.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

So, I have some news from my dealer (while I am seating in the waiting area);
- the 'tilting' play in the inner CV joint bearing is also present in the compared 2012 vehicle
- also the touching of the front mount of the rear diff is similar

However, they put a STAR requesting asking for the tolerances for play in the rear diff and also reiterated the clunking issue. There was a fast turnaround from the Jeep Technicians on the other side, as within 10 minutes they asked if the noise appears under or over 20mph. The answer to that, as we all know it, is ALWAYS, it is not speed dependent.

I gave the a small description on the road conditions when it appears; small bumps or cracks (washboard like pavement, even the gaps in my driveway cause it (1" wide and 1/2" height difference).

Some points from the discussion;
- the sound is a characteristic of the SLS
- nearly all cars with SLS are affected
- a new shock is under design (dealer technician) or a new mount or spacer/insulated is under development (dealer service manager)
- they will come back to me today with some more information

Bottom line, not a real improvement but I felt well taken care off and my efforts to support resolving the issue appreciated. All indications are that Jeep is aware of this issue and that they are working on it. Some timelines would be great though.

Could somebody check the play in the rear inner CV joints bearings of the rear diff at his GC? As well as how his front mount of the rear diff is looking like. That would be greatly appreciated to create a better statistical example ;-)
Does anybody have the specs for the rear diff regarding play in the bearings (QT2)?

I'm sitting at the dealership myself for an unrelated issue but they're are checking this out for me too. Hopefully I'll have some useful info to contribute here shortly.

I don't have any new useful info from my dealership visit today. They did identify the noise and ordered new rear struts. They said they believe that is the cause for the noise on on mine. Once they're in I'll report back.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Same with me, while the initial response from STAR was within 10 minutes, we haven't received additional information yet. My dealer agrees that the noise is really anoying and will put in new shocks as 'short term' fix until a final solution is developed. While they looked the part# up, they found a new revision of the SLS shocks and are hopeful, that these are already fixed ones. They didn't give me the # so I did some research by my one and..congratulations, Jeep Parts really confused me!

Please correct me if I am wrong, as all explanations are based on the conclusions I did:

1) Sales Codes:
SDA - Normal Duty Suspension
SDE - Sport Suspension
SDM - Export Suspension
SER - Normal Duty with Load Level and Height Conrol (?)
SES - Rear Load Level Suspension with
SDX - Quadralift

2) Shock Part#:
68069678AA - SDA, SES without SER (no parts found, maybe superseded)
68069846AF - SDA, without SES (Normal Duty) - 58,- U$
68069675AD - SDA, SER without SES (Normal Duty) - 79,- U$
68069671AC - SDA, without SER/SES (Normal Duty) - 87,- U$
68069843AF - SDA, with SES (Normal Duty + SLS) - 430,- U$
68084522AC - SDE, without SER/SES (Sport) - 90,- U$
68084523AC - SDE, SER (Sport) - 92,- U$
68087613AF - SDE, with SES (Sport + SLS) - 430,- U$
68084521AA - SES, SDE (Sport + SLS) - 472,- U$
68069677AC - SDM, without SER/SES (Export) - 85,- U$
68069676AD - SDM, SER without SES (Export) - 80,- U$
68069680AB - SDA, SES or SDM (Export + SLS) - 494,- U$
68039560AA - ???, ??? (Export and/or diesel)

3) Upper Shock Mounts Part#:
68023770AB - SES (SLS) - 58,- U$
68029590AE - SDA, SDM without SES (Normal Duty) - 27,- U$

*green, actual part# newer than in 2011_wk_parts.pdf
*red, part# no equivalent in 2011_wk_parts.pdf (found online in Mopar parts catalog)

What remains unclear to me is sales code SER as I don't know what Load Level and Height control might mean and looking at the price it's not the SLS. Any ideas?
I would think, the newest SLS is 68069843AF

On my work order for the new struts is part #68069680AB which matches one on your list. Hope that helps.

From my understanding, that is an export with SLS? Would that be right, being outside the US?
Additionally, that would be one of the oldest versions (from the 2011 WK2, as of the parts manual you can get from wk2jeeps). http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/...8069680AB.html states, that you can also use 68023770AB; 68023771AC which is not quite correct as the first one is the upper shock mount and the later the jounce stop.

Re: Wk2 Rear Knocking Noise Aussie GC Laredo

Dito with mine, Sep 2011.
I wonder about that one then as it is supposed to be export. I would ask the dealer about the difference of that one to 68069843AF.

I will ask my dealer the same and see what they have ordered. They stated there has been a revision and the ..AB is also pretty old.

Looking the parts up; it is a SLS but for Diesel and/or export. The part itself isn't sold in the US though some early Dodge Durangos have those.

Sorry, I would go for another shock if you want to replace. Talk with your service manager about the various parts. Sometimes they don't see it initally and have to spend some time digging into the numbers.
